The dawn could be seen through many windows in Stickpage city, yet with curtains drawn and alarms still silent, the people sleep, save for the set few who had to be up at dawn for mediocre jobs. Like most mornings, a mist could be seen between the buildings and throughout the streets, but as the sun rose, the mist dissipated.
No one noticed however, the Shroud that also arrived over the city. It may appear as storm clouds and once the sun has reached a certain height it will block the light as well, but it was not any normal Shroud.
Everywhere, everyone waking up to find their dawn a little darker, to find their mood a little more sour. This was the dawn of a bad day for everyone; waking up in a ditch or a cabin or a mansion. Nobody will have a nice day.

Welcome to Writer’s Lounge Civil War. Here all participants woke up to a bad time and will be in a sour mood for some reason, be it some guy stole your teddy or some women spilled her coffee on you accidently or maybe some jackass gave you a funny look or took the last chocolate out of the candy machine. For whatever reason, your gladiator is pissed off and in a foul mood and wants to pick a fight with the next guy who looks at him wrong.
Interested in taking part in this event? Submit a short piece of a maximum of 300 words, explaining why your gladiator is in a bad mood. No essays or novels required. Just a plain explanation of why he felt like getting out of bed today was a bad idea.
Additional Information
This is an opportunity to show the world (us Writers) that your character is more than just this badass warrior that likes going on killing sprees and fight whomever they can. This event will give you a chance to show us all different sides of who your character really is and amidst a battle with another opponent, maybe even show off some of their fighting as well.
The fighters’ opponents will be randomized and the reason for this will be because the event’s premise is based on a little bit of organized chaos. Thus walking down the street, you could run into anyone who might just challenge you to a duel.
This event however is not without its rules however. One thing I would like to ask everyone is that they shouldn’t kill their opponent, even if your character is a maniac sociopath with a serial killer attitude toward life and people in general, show some restraint and merely mortally wound your opponent instead of fatally. The difference between a stab in the heart and a stab near the heart.
The battles that will be presented will be purely based on the voting system that we use for everyday fights. There will not be Antes or Special winning conditions. I will basically give both gladiators a situation where they will fight one another and basically the audience can decide whether or not they completed the objective set out to them or not.
As for the story line, there is a very flexible idea that I will drive every battle towards, playing off what everyone wrote and thus leading everything towards a final battle between the last two participants.
This is not a tournament even though there will be a “last-man-standing” idea. This is purely an event that will hone everyone’s writing ability and give them something to refer back to in future battles if they so wish.
Now, why do I want people to not die in the tournament? You will have to wait and see after the first round’s completion.
Due to the general interest of the Writing Public, a deadline has been decided: The 1st of July! I will be slightly lenient if the reasons are good, but otherwise this will be the deadline and any entries after this won't be accepted. Thank you for understanding.
If there are any questions about details I may have missed out on, ask away and it will be added to the thread.
FAQ
Quote from CrankQ: How long are we going to have to produce the stories?
I am planning on having each fight the standard two week period to write. However, I am not a monster and if someone PM's me their reasoning for postponement then I will add another week, but I will not grant more than this due to not wanting to finish this event in months time, understandably.
Quote from SmellsLikeGreekQ: What should the story be about? How they woke up feeling bad, or leading up to that?
The submission can be whatever you like, be it waking up in a bad mood or leading up to a bad mood, so long by the end of your submission, you're in a bad mood.
