I am partial to this petition

Even though i am prone to stupidity, I love this idea.

I agree. I can imagine a long list in the future containing all sorts of embarrassing and stupid reasons. Oooh also a list of the dumb posts the user has made and the posts that led up to them being banned would be truly entertaining. It's going to be a stickpage wall of shame.

That would get kinda long though :/
Whatever, I'll sign up for it, it just needs a little more figuring out how it will work.

Yeah and we're not used to long, stickied threads... #chatthread #picturethread

I can see merits in this idea and have considered it before but ultimately the reason I decided to shelve the idea is because it's a big job to maintain and adds a bit of overhead to the ban process for mods. It feels less tedious to simply answer when asked because it doesn't happen very often, and I believe that even if we go through the trouble and effort to set up this topic and keep it up to date there will still be just as many people asking about why someone was banned for the same reason people ask questions instead of googling the answer. It sometimes just feels easier to ask then to look for yourself. I still get this with the rules thread even though I went to a lot of trouble to clean it up and clarify everything. People still say "I didn't know about that thread" or "you were faster to ask".

I didn't think of a few concerns from the Moderator's point of view until Jeff brought it up. So I would like to offer a few more thoughts here.
1) I get your point about the tedious overhead. To solve that, perhaps you can assign one person, say Scarecrow or Exilement or someone who doesn't have a history of being a faggot, and it will be that person's responsbility to PM the mods, ask for why the ban was imposed, and then update the thread? That way, it won't be extra work for you or any of the other mods since you'll answer those questions anyway.
2) Yes, you are right in that, people might still ask questions about why so-and-so was banned, but this would actually give a place to archive it so people, new members AND old, can always learn their lesson from it, as opposed to a Chat Thread where it would disappear quickly.
3) Recently we had a member who attempted to martyr himself by asking for a ban. Those who weren't around in the Chat Thread will now automatically assume that one of you banned him, which fulfills his idiotic purpose of misdirected martyrdom. A thread like this could prevent from people taking advantage of getting banned to look like a hero (even if it DOES happen rarely, it has happened often enough in the past, so think of it as a long term thing).
4) Fun, Fun, Fun. If the whole point of this community (the general discussion community, not the animation one) is to make an enjoyable community then this is a great concept that could provide plenty more laughs, lessons and conversations.

I mean, there's nothing stopping trusted users from doing that now, right? I thought the idea of this was to have an official list that's accurate because it's curated by mods. I like your idea for someone dedicated enough to keep up with it, but who's going to want to detect bans and wait for mods to respond? If a volunteer wanted to do it they could do it right now and I would sticky the thread, but I don't see it lasting long if at all.
Like I said I can see the merits of it (even if curbing the users asking isn't really a thing), I just think the effort sort of outweighs them. I also wish people wouldn't make judgments based on someone's ban when they don't know the full story. I think that's a fault of certain members of the community rather than the lack of a list of ban reasons. We have pretty good transparency as mods and it doesn't take a lot to ask and get a direct answer. If someone cares enough that someone else got banned they should make an effort to find the info about it rather than getting pissed off at mods. I know a list would still help with this, but it's something I wanted to say because it shouldn't even be a reason to need a ban list.
Also I really appreciate you guys actually bringing this up and opening it up for discussion instead of complaining. Makes me proud :')

i think "curated" is going a bit far. literally all you would have to do is post in a thread if you've banned someone worth mentioning. isn't this less effort than responding to several people about it? hell, you could even just copy paste the infraction reason field.
assuming you guys actually fill that shit in.

Fuck it. Jeff said that he'd support a Registrar thread, so I'll do it. Gimmie 10-15 minutes.

I think everyone who signed the petition should be banned just for satirical purposes.

Thus proving that no one here knows what the word satire means.
Good going Devour.

I actually like the idea, sign me up. And if the problem is that "there's not one there for the job" I'll gladly do it. I remember back then when I had he same question about my friends getting banned and me asking all the mods of why was he/she banned.
