My speculation wasn't that whatever is happening is going to completely change life as we know it, but at least might have some significant effect, maybe as significant as the World Wars (which is likely a terrible exaggeration from my part, but you get the idea). I did consider what you said though, that there's a good chance that it's all gonna turn out meh like everything else usually does.

Care to elaborate? Is this regarding the elections? Not even the Middle East is definitely screwed. Like yeah there's a chance it does get screwed, but there's some hope. I doubt America would be actually screwed any time soon.

I think that if it really came down to an almost-apocalyptic scenario, most of the world would be forced to work together for their own survival. The combined power of all the major nations is enormous, and its hard to imagine a scenario that could lead to most/all of the first world collapsing.
