I tried to not be made fun of them by swearing, and itd idn't work out and I didn't enjoy it.
So I just promised myself I wouldn't swear (or at least keep swearing to a minimum)

You shouldn't convince someone to take drugs or drink alcohol if you're still in high school. If you're in college, well the latter is more acceptable.

I thought I would fit in with them, and they would stop.

I took the opposite approach. Told them to stop fucking with me and became totally alienated from my peers for the entire duration of my schooling.
