so that's what separates us from animals? Certainly they're the more savage ones, destroying the rain forests, destroying the ozone layer, dropping bombs on Hiroshima.

Think about it. We have hunting seasons to regulate the over population of deer, but who is regulating the over population of people?

It was a bad defeat though.

To be honest I personally prefer that the Japs changed, and in fact the entire world is or has changed in this direction. From brutal warriors to more peaceful, caring, and loving humans. I think that's what separates us from animals, the fact that to us it is becoming less and less about the survival of the fittest and more about giving everyone a fair chance at life and a good one at that too.

We are animals, different, yes. Animals are different from other animals. We're still compelled by our natural inclinations, by evolution. To survive, to reproduce.
Your perspective sounds really naive to me.

Obviously we're not perfect, and we still have a loong way before we really are much better than all the others animals.

Then again an animal wouldn't give it a second thought to kill another of the same species if it meant their own survival. The average person wouldn't be able to do that as easily.

Not really, he's acknowledging the fact that we have an intrinsic drive to go out of our way to protect the weak. That's fairly unique in the animal kingdom, it doesn't mean we're not animals. Just a very good example of one way in which we're different, which was the point he was making.

See that's different. They're killing innocent people.

I like George Carlin's idea about putting every criminal in a boodbath free for all until they're all dead, televise it on pay-per-view, and ultimately balancing out the population while subsequently fixing the economy.

Thats because of environment and circumstances though I'm sure you know that.

Maybe I am a bit too idealistic yes. Even though we're still far, I'd like to think we're coming closer and closer to a utopia.

"Better" like what? Why does it matter if we're "Better" than animals, I've met animals that would and have risked their lives for me. Camaraderie I've never experienced with humans.

Do you think animals are bad? I don't get it.

You don't know for fact if you'd throw another person under the bus to save your own hide, you don't know that at all. You THINK you wouldn't.

Thats why George Carlin was such an unfunny dick (I realize I'm in the minority).

I meant morally better, but then again this is an entire debate all by itself.

Animals are primitive, only driven by instinct.

Well, the psychology and mental processes that go with that are far too complex for me to understand and frankly there's a lot I don't know.
