Biting someone is no small matter. You could do it wrong or bite a hard part of his body and break your teeth. Not to mention it will work only when you get your mouth close to him, which leaves you wide open to a range of attacks while you're trying to get there.

Attempting to bite someone also means you have to open your jaw, and if he lands a solid punch or kick or elbow to your open jaw, it will break and you'll be out for the count while your family gets murdered and raped.

Yeah at the most a light bite would cause some bleeding, you'd have to bite really damn hard to tear some skin (i know because i've bitten someone before lol) Plus you'd have to think about how he's going to react, will he attack you as you're biting down? If so will you take the hits?

You can't always be prepared, thats why discussing hypothetical scenarios can make the difference between life and death because otherwise you'd freeze up in a real scenario and get no ideas.

Kitchen utensils, steak knives and hammers are EXTREMELY useful in a fight, and it might be all you need to get rid of the marauding mongols.

True, but there's a lot of things close to me that i can use as a weapon. Pencils, mugs, rope, weight rods (Those things you put the weights on), axe-spray and glass. Not gonna say i'd be prepared right away but i'd understand the situation soon after. If he has a gun then there's no fighting that, all i can hope for is a surprise attack.

I see that none of you are nearly as euphoric as I. Japanese swords are folded a thousand times over to produce the sharpest blade known to man. When a robber comes in to my house to steal my prized yugioh collections, the gentle gleam of my fedora will be the last thing that they see.

Don't post so rapidly, also, posting in succession is called "double posting" and it is often frowned upon unless a significant amount of time has passed.

Also, I think sometimes a weapon can't be found and you simply have to rely on looking like you've become a frenzied barbarian, it terrifies people when they see a person with nothing to lose and murder in their eyes.

Yep.. I was warned.. I freaked out

Which is why biting is best used as a complementary attack. While you already have him in a chokehold, you could bite. Or bite to get your way OUT of something. That shouldn't be your go-to thing.

Best thing to do is use a pencil or page opener to poke out his eyes and THEN deal with him. If he has a gun, you'll have to trick him into coming closer to do something about it.

Don't be silly, they don't have robbers in Canada.

It would be great if you could say "dead". It doesn't take a lot of effort to add the extra "a" and people will appreciate the fact that you're respecting proper communication.

Hypothetical perpetrator is a murderer so I might as well go down fighting if I'm going to die anyways.

Edit : I agree with the psychology of it, but its even scarier if you look like a murderer who knows what hes doing, rather than an untamed beast who can be outsmarted.
Not just limited to biting, flailing limbs and full-body tackles can be part of the repertoire. When a person snaps, they're going to throw everything they can muster and make sure the opponent will have a bad time...unless he has a gun. Then again, Adrenaline is an amazing thing and (most) wild animals don't die in one hit immediately.

I just realized that I'm basically describing how my RHG fights, despite the weapon and abilities.

Bites tend to have a little side effect to them, especially if you haven't brushed your teeth. You'll at least get the last laugh with infection, and if he sees medical attention then he'll still have to expose himself.

Yes but why would you not use the best possible strategy even in a hypothetical scenario?

Wild, uncontrolled flailing is the worst thing you can do in a fight. Just think about it. The only reason we have martials arts and self-defense training is because animal instincts and the body's natural response in a fight might not always be the best thing to do. In fact, a person with even a rudimentary knowledge of fighting can seriously injure someone who is "going all out". Its VERY easy to tire someone out when they do that, and not to mention thats how people break their fingers and thumbs, but hitting someone else in the wrong part of the body when they're "being wild".

I'd like to counter this by saying bites have an even worse effect on you. This guy is a murderer rapist, if you bite him, you could end up getting a venereal disease of some kind. The chances of HIM getting infected because of your dirty teeth are MUCH lower than YOUR chances of getting a disease of some kind by biting him. So your logic in that area doesn't hold up.

Gosh, just hurl objects at him, then kick'em where it hurts. Or her.

Unless you have training in the martial arts. Especially defensive martial arts, like Judo, Taekwondo, etc.

Edit: I'm actually pretty sure the topic is over. Some say change the topic. Quick!

Thats pretty much what we were talking about.

Although to hurl an object sufficiently, you'll need to pull back. This basically opens you up to them charging at you and having their way with you.

Yeah, I just realized. Sorry 'bout that.

On a completely separate note, anyone know any good fantasy/action/romance novels? Romance isn't nessesary. It's just to narrow the criteria.

Thats a broad category, if you're looking for good fantasy, then you have to start with Tolkien's stuff.

From there you can gravitate to the Malazan series, A Song of Ice and Fire, the Discworld stuff etc.

Important concept in self defense.
