Over-glorified glow sticks.

A light saber would be so impractical as a glow stick though
If you swung it around during a rave you'd probably murder quite a few people

It crossed my mind how it would be really really bad if robots became sentient. Not because they'll just kill us all, but because they'll want to exercise free will and whatnot. Think about it, within a few decades secondary sector jobs (manufacturing, production, factory work) will be taken over by machines. People won't have to do these mundane dead end jobs anymore. Everyone is going to work in tertiary sector jobs like research and services etc. If robots become sentient they'll start having "feelings" and might refuse to do these jobs.

Have you seen the animatrix?
Yeah, that.
Yeah, that.

I still think it would be impossible for robots to learn things they weren't programmed to learn. I think the only robot right now that might become sentient is cleverbot, because it was designed to learn and improve itself. For all we know it might already be self aware
That was 100% percent our fault though. Humans were being assholes to the poor robots and they snapped.

Cleverbot is still a long way from being self aware.
EDIT: I just talked to it and it's definitely getting smarter. However, everything it says has some sort of sarcastic/mocking undertone.
I am also legit creeped by this convo:

Cleverbot has been plagued and ruined by smart arse little tossers across the globe. One time I sad hello to it and the first it said was a fucking yo mamma joke.

Guys i think we should kill as many humans as we can.
You know, to tell the robots we're on their side.
