Because one more day to celebrate christmas is surely a bad thing......
People around here usually gift their presents on the evening of christmas eve on the 24th (which is a half working day for some people) but the 25th and the 26th are the official first and second day of christas and public holiday for everyone.

In my country, we have christmas dinner the evening of 24th (christmas eve). when it's 00:00 hs (already 25th) we go outside to see the fireworks, as an excuse to get the kids out of the house, so the adults can take out the presents and put them under the christmas three.
Then kids go inside again and are like WTF WE WENT OUTSIDE 2 SEC AND DAT NIG PUT THE PRESENTS UNDER THE TREE DAFUQ CHRISTMAS MAGIC MAN.
