There are really two main benefits from having a console over a computer.
1. Exclusives. This is pretty much a no-brainer and why Nintendo and to an extent the PS4 are still relevant. This is kind of self-explanatory so yeah.
2. Local Multiplayer. I dunno about anyone else, but having local multiplayer over online multiplayer is so much more fun and engaging, especially when you're playing games like Smash or Co-op games like 3D Land. I honestly can't say I've had the same local experience on a PC game, and there is a massive difference to the point where I think it makes a noticeable effect on purchases.

After that, there's really no other reason to have a console over a gaming laptop. If you move around a lot, maybe consoles might be better if you can't have a heavy laptop or a desktop computer. But that's really it.

speaking of annual cash grabs, 2017 looks like a great year for sonic. sonic mania looks exactly like the sega genesis games which to this day are my favorite 2D platformers. the other one looks pretty good too, basically a sequel to sonic generations which was a ton of fun.

I hate Sonic games, so I can't relate.

Exclusives are more hostages to a console than added benefits to buying a console, these days anyway.

Though I will have to agree with you on local multiplayer. Consoles are the absolute best when it comes to local game sessions, some of the finest moments in my gaming life has been me playing with other people like playing smash with my family. I'm just getting mildly paranoid when games like Halo 5 suddenly don't allow split screen for people playing locally. (I don't know if they have fixed this, but if they have then good on them) The console gaming community feels like it's slowly moving away from local to online multiplayer and if they do that then people might as well go to PC.

I suppose I'm just old fashioned, but I miss the PS2 time of gaming. Hell, PS2 was the console that got me into gaming and I still have a fuckton of CDs for the PS2 that I can't use since my it broke down. Times change.

I won't deny that, though it would feel really weird playing Nintendo games on a PC. And certain games really feel like they need bigger screens, so you'd definitely have to invest more money in a quality monitor if you opt not to get a console.

I think you could argue that PS2 had the strongest library out of any console ever, and that the Xbox/PS2/GC era had the strongest library out of any console generation period, plus more if you include the GBA and early Nintendo DS.

I find them more charming and overall I do think they have more well-thought out gameplay compared to their 3D counterparts, but I dislike the gameplay concept of Sonic as a whole and I've never really enjoyed them at the same level I enjoyed other similar games at the time like Super Mario Bros 3.

If there's one thing I'll admit, it's that Sonic for some reason has always had really consistently fantastic music, no matter how shitty the games were. Sonic Generations has one of the best OSTs I've heard in a hot minute for an old franchise, and I still remember old OSTs like Chemical Plant and Green Hill Zone by heart.

I'm angry about sonic mania.

in concept, its amazing and i will make sure to get it. I'm angry because project sonic is being released at the same time. i feel like sega did that in case project sonic failed. is this some sort of trick to distract us from the potential crap of project sanic 2017?

Salt, I would reccomend you get a computer. A Wii U is nice to have, but unless you play every other week or so (maybe every day like me) there's not much it has over a laptop.

no need to be angry, Sonic Mania is being developed by Headcannon and PagodaWest Games using the S3&K engine developed by Christian Whitehead, it's a 1:1 remake of the original engine since Sega apparently lost it and it's a very good one. Project Sonic is the new game from Sonic Team.

So on the topic of Sonic. I do feel like nostalgia is Sonic Teams' last and only card to put on the table when it comes to Sonic, so it does make sense they'd do it, especially since with the releases of Mario Maker and things like Mighty No. 9 where delving into the past has been shown to work, since most people who want a new sonic game do want something that reminds them of the older days of the franchise. I probably will pick up Mania because it doesn't seem bad in concept. Personally I wish Sonic Team had more time to experiment because they are talented game designers with good ideas, looking at things such as Billy Hatcher. I can't mention my nostalgia for old school sonic because it doesn't exist because I'm too young, but Mania looks cool.
Project Sonic however (so far at least) has not engaged me, but I'll give it a chance.

Every time i hear about that show, i cringe. It's above average but its one of those shows that tends to not have a word after 2 weeks as if CN keeps forgetting to air the show.
