it's five, so why would you bother?
Aug 22, 2012 9:27 PM #723979
yeah, it would be a good idea exilement, but a method to make to make hard and/or impossible to spambot to make accounts will be more useful.

So you're suggesting we ban people before they start posting.

Not really, do you know that when something attempt to login and fail for 5 times in a row, it will be not able to login/make an account for the next 15 minutes? Well, it's something like that, if something attempt to make an account and it complete the form in less than 30 (it's an example) seconds, it will not be able to make an account or login for the next 15 minutes.

Stone is working on installing some new adbot software which blocks registration from any IP or email address which was used to spam any forum which has this software installed. It's apparently very good.

What are you guys talking about, I just visited FA not too long ago today, it was fine. Is it closing down?Quote from Bond84I still need to talk to stone about setting up wRHG's.

Also the newest thing at spam companies is to pay chinese people to register manually for them, then they run their ad script, so even if we have clever methods to confuse a bot out of registering, there will still be those that get through due to human intervention.

No. Usually spam companies are advertising something - let's say, viagra. If they send out 10,000 emails with links to an online viagra store, they certainly don't expect everyone to actually follow the link. But if they get something like 10 people to click on the link (Or somewhere in that general realm - the point is just that it's a very small number, but it's justified based on the fairly low cost of spamming people) and maybe a few of those to actually pay money at said store, or perhaps just be looking at advertisements on the website they've been linked to, then spammer is ahead of the game.

They also target websites with a high google search ranking and spam links so that the google crawler will find those links and improve their own site's search ranking.

^^ Yeah I thought that was the primary reason behind them, and virtually every adbot here posts a huge list of phrases people might search for that are similar to whatever they're advertising.

Dude Exilement about the awards, are we supposed to make that for 2012 only or are we allowed to take things from the past years?

In my last thread:
Sorry, thought it was kind of obvious we were voting for relatively recent things, it'd be a little pointless if the same few threads/animations/etc were nominated over and over again.
Quote from ExilementTypically this was done at the end of the year, but starting this year I'm going to run it bi-annually. Usually by December no one remembers much from the first half of the year anyway, so this way events from January-April don't get completely ignored.

I'm working on a promotional video for a Flash plugin I'm working on for Fileize:
Make sure to watch in HD. What do you guys think? I'm gonna be using this as a sort of advertisement thing so I want to get some opinions before I put it out on the net officially. (it's an unlisted youtube upload)

That's awesome, the design looks really neat. Is it fully working already? When will it be released?
