By the way Arch, what exactly is Gladiator? No idea is really original anymore, but I have no idea what that is. XD

It's the movie with Russel Crowe where he's the general of the Roman empire that the prince tries to have killed after he refuses to put off his retirement. He makes it home to find his home destroyed and his wife and kid's burnt bodies hanging from the porch of his house. He ends up passing out to blood loss and being sold to some guy in charge of setting up coliseum matches. He ends up fighting his way through everything trying to get a chance to avenge the loss of his family. The part that I found similar was the prince killed his father so he could become king when he found out the king of rome was going to give the city to the senate, rather than his son.

Btw Arch, you don't deserve to be the judge
You can't recognize a Picasso when you see one :P

Ah, I see, that does sound a lot like the concept behind my piece. The prince in mine is more fed up with the fact that he's the baby of the family and his older brothers are the true successors, so he just decided to take a bit of a shortcut. That, and he has some bloodlust. But technicalities aside, I kind of figured I'd be lacking in the originality department, I had another idea I had was more original but I didn't feel like I'd be able to execute it as well.

That sounds like Shanghai Knights lol. The bad guy was like 11th in line for the throne so he was doing a deal with the chinese to give some guy power in china while in return they would kill everyone in front of him in line for the throne, making him king. Great movie.

Man, whoever said that no idea is original anymore wasn't kidding. Well, now I have some movies to check out.

Yeah I wasn't super Uber harsh on the originality thing. I mean, the Simpsons have already done everything at least once.
Apr 6, 2015 8:41 PM #1342763
True, the Simpsons approach is satirical to almost anything though so it's almost a requirement for them to be unoriginal. Which kind of feigns originality I guess? I don't know, I don't watch nearly enough of the show to have an educated opinion on the matter.
To try and keep from going horribly off topic though, what do me, Camila, and Cedric need to do in terms of contacting you? Just pm you our PayPals or something? No rush, I'm just curious for future reference.

Before I forget again, there is one thing that I do not accept: deeming my art as "lack of effort"
I don't remember showing to anyone of you guys some art I made: how can you tell I didn't put effort? For me it's way better if you tell me that it is too simple, it lacks a background or something like that. I don't think you were behind me when I was drawing it
PS
With this I don't want to bitch on my placing, but on how you input my judgment

I put probably 48+ hours into my art and I didn't get anything for it because it didn't "Follow the theme"
I got a five total and ended up tying with a bunch of people.
I assume I scored a 1 in originality "Because swordsman is just more generic than standard animu style apparently" and a 1 in the theme department.
I'm not surprised zaix won it all but I wont pretend I'm not disappointed that I got nothing to show for it.

I agree that it wasn't right of him to say that you didn't put in effort DiPi, it just looked very rough, with it being scanned in and kinda blurry and whatnot. The character probably would have spoke a lot more if he was interacting with something too, i.e. staring down at an object of sorts, and a little bit of shading would have helped too, although i think the simplistic nature of the picture spoke about his character a bit.
I don't doubt that you spent a lot of time on your piece Jutsu, the linework is clean as heck. I think where Arch is coming from is the fact that the picture itself doesn't speak as many volumes as he was looking for. He's battle-worn, rugged, and probably doesn't give a care about killing another person, but showing even more about him through subtle things would have helped, i.e. having a locket around his neck, open, with a crack in the glass signifying the death of his wife or mother to show a tormented past, or a hint of a tear forming to show that he actually does have an issue about killing another person.
I trust that Arch didn't judge based on style though, most of his comments focus on whether it followed the theme or not. I would have scored a -5 in originality since there's apparently been like 15 billion movies based off of princes killing their fathers that I haven't seen. XD

Honestly dude, the second I saw yours I thought it was a shoe in for first place. Really good stuff.
