PENNY DREADFUL: THE FIFTH RIPPER
Full Name: Ms. Penelope Jaqueline Whitechapel
Date of Birth: 13th August
Nationality: British
Gender: Female
Height: 5ft 4in (162.6cm)
Weight: 114lbs (52kg)
Eye: Green
Hair: Light Brown
- Intelligence: Penny has an estimated IQ of 174, degrees in psychology and forensics, and a working knowledge of various other sciences. Her observational skills allow her to identify her opponent’s strengths over her own, and vice versa, and turn them against themselves.
- Machete: A large blade, plain and simple. Penny's go-to weapon.
- Knives: Penny carries many throwing knives within her coat. She can throw two in each hand at one time, though this greatly lowers their distance and accuracy.
- Regeneration: Penny has an advanced healing factor, and can reattach dismembered limbs. The severity of the wound affects the speed of recovery, although broken bones tend to heal in a matter of seconds. Reattaching limbs takes a similar length of time.
- Penny has a superiority complex, and c
an’t accept the notion that she’s not the irrefutable best at what she does. She is too stubborn to acknowledge defeat, and against a superior opponent will keep fighting until she outright collapses from exhaustion (which is usually accompanied with tears of frustration).
- Penny’s healing abilities do not render her invincible, though she has a higher chance of avoiding death provided her vital organs heal fast enough. Furthermore, salt water tempoarily nullifies her healing.
- With her advanced healing comes a repressed sense of pain - both a strength and a weakness as it prohibits her from judging her own limitations.
- Though not necessarily a weakness, Penny has a neurodevelopmental disorder with unfortunate implications; whilst her autism could be considered one factor behind her academic genius, it afflicts her with selective mutism, though it is not exactly known how.
SUBJECT: WHITECHAPEL, PENELOPE J.
RESTRICTED ACCESS: SIGMA-LEVEL CLEARANCE REQUIRED
Document Created: Friday, 23rd January 2015
Administration: Dr. Francis J. Hartley
The following information has been provided to IIDEN and the RHG Corporation by a close associate of Ms. Whitechapel with the understanding that their identity remain anonymous. Additional sources to confirm the associate's information include accounts and records from IIDEN Europe's archives, the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), and Ms. Whitechapel herself.
Documents dating as early as 1888 in both IIDEN and the MPS' archives have been compared, and our suspicions that Ms. Whitechapel is a direct lineal descendant of [is][/is] (known publicly by the alias of "Jack the Ripper") have been confirmed. Our records show that [is][/is] had at least one child, Evelyn, mother of whom had applied for a deed of name change in 1902 - this appears to be the earliest recorded use of Whitechapel as the family name. It would seem that IIDEN then destroyed all records available to the public that could be used to trace Evelyn's relation to [is][/is] in order to protect her from the public seeking "Jack's" justice by proxy of his daughter. As this information has remained solely within IIDEN's protection, it had been lost even to the Whitechapel family by the time of Ms. Whitechapel's birth.
The associate shared that they and Ms. Whitechapel are responsible for as many as six murders in the Greater London area from August 2014 to January 2015, and proclaim their motives to have been vigilante justice. MPS records show that with each murder came anonymously submitted evidence that proved the respective victims guilty of variations of fraud or assault. Ms. Whitechapel, of whom has an intellect of which could easily qualify her for Mensa membership, disclosed that she had been the anonymous source every time. It would seem that the two used their collective resources to locate and track their victims, gather the desired encriminating evidence, and lure them to the nearest convenient location for them to then commit the murders. This operation worked for nearly five months before they were found out by the MPS' Criminal Investigations Department (CID). IIDEN Agents Enfield, May, Dempsey and myself were assigned with the task of capturing Ms. Whitechapel after she evaded arrest by the CID. On 22nd January, Agent Dempsey succeeded in the assigned task.
Unfortunately, next to no information was provided regarding Ms. Whitechapel's advanced healing factor. Ms. Whitechapel herself was reportedly unaware of it until August of last year; she was admitted to [is][/is] Hospital with multiple stab wounds of which had reportedly healed within hours. The RHG Corporation have elected to proceed with the assumption that the advanced healing is an inherent genetic mutation within the Whitechapel bloodline in spite of IIDEN records providing no evidence to confirm this.
Ms. Whitechapel shared that she learned of the RHG Corporation through contact of her latest victim; former Gladiator 'Class Clown' (real name Simon Davies), of whom was found dead yesterday morning. She disclosed that she hoped to enrol as a Gladiator on the condition that both her and her associate's criminal records were erased. IIDEN and RHG representatives have arranged a meeting with MPS' Commissioner [is][/is] and Detective Sergeant Abberline (a key member in the investigations and arrest of Ms. Whitechapel's associate) to discuss the terms of granting Ms. Whitechapel's request.
Document Updated: 26th January 2015
Administration: Bridget Dempsey
IIDEN's European Operations Director (EOD) has ordered clearance restrictions on this document be lowered to Epsilon-level to allow the RHG Organisation viewing access.
Commissioner [is][/is] has agreed to drop all charges against Ms. Whitechapel and her associate on the condition that IIDEN take responsiblity for Beatrix Blackburn, Ms. Whitechapel's associate of whom under the terms of her employment we can no longer grant anonymity to. EOD [is][/is] has placed Ms. Blackburn into London HQ's medical laboratories with Gamma-level clearance to information that will allow her to continue her studies towards her doctorate, plus any further studies in related fields she may wish to pursue.
The autopsy report on Simon Davies was handed to Dr. Hartley at 08:06 this morning. It reports that the victim suffered grievous injuries the coroner was quoted to compare to a wild animal attack. Taking into account her aggressive and concerning behaviour (of which I have witnessed firsthand), Dr. Hartley and I have discussed putting Ms. Whitechapel forward for further testing to evaluate her mental health. I have requested that the RHG Corporation allow IIDEN shared custody of Ms. Whitechapel so as to keep her under my and Dr. Hartley's surveillance, in similar fashion to our arrangement with Mr. Davies.
In a word, 'inconsistent'.
Normally,
Penny seems quiet and introverted. She is unable to maintain eye contact (a fairly common trait of autists), usually looking to people's hands rather than their faces. To those she can speak with, her speech can vary from slow and stuttered to almost perfect depending on how comfortable she feels around said individual. Like a child, she struggles to read other people's body language, gague their emotions or understand their feelings towards things.
Also like a child, Penny can occasionally be self-centered, demanding and controlling. She has a tendency to show off her high intelligence, expecting praise for it and sulking when she doesn't receive any. In conversation, she can come across as patronising at times, as if she assumes people don't know what she is saying unless she uses small words.
As stated in weaknesses, Penny has a superiority complex where she feels a need to prove herself the smartest, and by her logic the 'best', at any given opportunity. She can be very competitive, and is prone to temper tantrums that can range from tears and outbursts of incoherent screeching to lashing out and assaulting anyone nearby with scratches and bites.
As a fighter and a killer, Penny is cunning and merciless. She is capable of arranging and re-arranging strategies on the spot according to her opponent's actions. It's also common for her to practice 'mind games' to incite intimidation, aggravation and loss of concentration, though she risks falling victim to this herself when things don't go her way and she loses her temper.
There are different theories behind Penny's selective mutism, ranging from early childhood trauma to a symptom of her autism spectrum disorder. Regardless, there are select few instances when Penny can speak, which are as follows;
- To close friends, family and loved ones
- To certain 'authority figures', for example her former school teachers or Dr. Hartley
- After a sufficient amount of alcohol has been consumed
- When she has her favourite toy from childhood - a stuffed rabbit named 'Abby', which she will often speak to in order to think aloud
- Amidst a temper 'meltdown' - though this will mostly consist of shockingly foul language and spiteful insults
- To her 'victims' during or after their final moments
Penny’s attire consists of a white shi
rt and black trousers under a long black coat buttoned from the waist up. She also has a grey wool scarf, and her face is covered by a blank white porcelain mask, giving an eerie doll-like appearance. Her hair is long, and flows freely down her front shoulders.
Family & Friends
Susan Whitechapel - Penny's mother.
Edward Whitechapel, Jr. - Penny's estranged father. Serving life imprisonment.
Samantha Whitechapel - Penny's aunt, Edward's sister.
Beatrix "Trixie" Blackburn - Penny's closest friend for as long as either of them can remember, and partner-in-crime during their vigilante murder spree. Now acquitted of her crimes, she now studies medical sciences under IIDEN's employment.
The International Intelligence, Defence & Enforcement Network (aka. IIDEN)
-
Dr. Francis Hartley – Hartley frequently communicates with the RHG Corporation as an ambassador for IIDEN. He and Bridget look after Penny on behalf of the Corporation.
-
Bridget Dempsey (aka. "Foxie") – Another IIDEN ambassador to the Corporation, Bridget appointed herself Penny's carer upon her induction as a Gladiator. Whilst she talks about working with the two organisations, nobody seems to know what exactly it is that she does.
-
Jason May – IIDEN agent, Penny's carer in Bridget's absence.
The RHG Corporation
-
Light – Penny’s first opponent in the RHG. Whilst outmatching her in strength and defence, Light was eventually trumped by her using the environment against him, turning his advantage into his downfall.
-
Dante Rockwell – The other half of ‘Steampunk’, an apparent Penny x Dante ship among RHG fans. Penny is disgusted by the very concept of the ship, but has no particular quarrel with Dante, whom helped her through the initial shock of its discovery.
-
Lien (aka. Subject 11630) – Penny's second opponent in the RHG. The Agent-like fighter toyed with her anger and superiority complex to ultimately disastrous results.
-
"The Handyman" – A horrendous creature Penny and Bridget encountered in Sydenham Hill Wood. It is not entirely known how the two escaped being killed by the Handyman, though they were found unconscious in the wood the following morning.
-
Omega – An extraterrestrial with metallic flesh and multiple appendages. Thus far, the only Gladiator to defeat Penny Dreadful.
- A 'penny dreadful' was the derogatory
term given to 19th Century British serial literature, commonly published in weekly installments and sold for a penny. Whitechapel is the district in East End London where the infamous murders associated with Jack the Ripper took place.
- Bridget offered to ‘handle’ the process of registering Penny as a Gladiator, and as such gave her the alias of 'Penny Dreadful'. Penny herself hates this alias, claiming it to be ‘a cheap, idiotic pun’.
- Since learning of her relation to Jack, Penny sometimes refers to the linear members of the family by numbers. She is the 'Fifth Ripper', her father the 'Fourth', and so on.
- Penny is very enthusiastic toward music. She taught herself to play piano, and took violin lessons in high school. She even sings to herself or Abby when she’s especially sure nobody can listen in.
- Penny has a strong fondness for animals, particularly cats, dogs and birds. Though bizarrely, she seems to have a phobia of fish.
- Penny's other known phobias are thunderstorms, the ocean, and large crowds of people. She also appears highly sensitive to bright lights and loud and/or sudden noises.
- Penny's education in psychology means she can frequently tell when people are lying to her, and manipulate the truth from them. However, she is terrible at lying herself. Those who know her well can notice her acting more awkwardly than usual, scratching her forearms as if they were itching.
The night was cold, silence loomed over
the alleyways behind the city streets. The light in the area was miniscule; the floor was obscured, lost in an infinite mass of pitch-black. An entirely desolate scene, save for one figure, clumsily stumbling through the dusk. The young gentleman’s haphazard steps were not through struggling to find footing, however; the bottle firmly in his grasp combined with his incoherent slurring to himself about nothing in particular confirmed that he was inebriated. “Ahh,” the drunkard complained aloud, “wuh-where-…the, bloody…floor’s gone… wuzzerewhen… when I- wuh-when… ffffuckin’ FLOOR! …Ahh…”
A sound from behind caused the man to wheel around in alarm, whilst remarkably keeping his footing. “Wha-OI! Wot, wozz… wozgonnon… ‘Oo’s there?!” He glared through the dark, in the wrong direction to where the sound originated, then glanced to his bottle, just over half-full with vodka. “Eh-woah-‘ey now, this ‘ere, iss mine! An’… An’ you can’t, none of it. …‘Ssssmine.” The second sound was much closer, and accompanied by a sudden dousing of the man’s side and left leg. His beloved bottle had been shattered.
The man looked to his right, where he saw a knife buried in the wall, beads of vodka crawling to the hilt and dropping into darkness. Out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly noticed a figure emerge from the dark, a much larger knife in hand…
The scuffle was quick, but brutal. The man tried to swing a punch at his assailant but hit nought but air as the blow was dodged effortlessly. To keep himself from losing his balance, he clutched onto the forearm of the masked figure, additionally restricting use of the machete, and refused to let go. With his free arm, the attacker grasped the drunkard’s throat tightly, fingernails penetrating skin and slowly drawing blood. As the man tried to gasp for air to scream, he realised the makeshift weapon in his ri
