Before you say anything, yes. Both ARE needed to develop a human as he grows into the world. This poll isn't about that.

My question is: Given that we have so many talented people, and given your own talents, which force do you think has been the bigger influence in your life that has led you to be the person you are today? These are your choices:

Nature is your belief that skills are inherited and the subtle traits passed on or how you grew up allowed you to become a better person. Because you were always punished for not finishing your food, you have grown to believe that finishing one's work is to be good, hence you always work on finishing animation you start and feel empty and anchored when months have caused your projects to delay.

This is essentially the equivalent of constantly breeding Pokemon until they have the correct type you desire in order to minmax their stats to their fullest potential.

======================

Nurture is your belief that all humans are born as Tabula Rasa aka A Blank Slate, and that through experience and environment you are able to subtly grow and harness your craft. Having grown up in the streets of Lisbon where graffiti and Modern art litter the urban landscape, and having experienced how such graffiti can disappear at any time, you are inspired to focus on short but impactful animations because you believe that the attention span of a regular work is short and is tantamount to how it should be cherished.

This is essentially the equivalent of feeding nothing but the most powerful TMs to a Pokemon of moderately high stats in order to take advantage of what it is capable of.

There is no right or wrong answer, obviously. This poll is for determining what you believe in and where you stand. You might learn a thing or two about yourself if you can declare how and why you have skill.

If you find yourself answering "Both". Answer the one that dominates you. Otherwise, answer the one that has influenced you recently.

Discuss.

EDIT: LOL OKAY Apparently I had them switched around. My bad.

I'd say I'm more of a nature person.

I'm with Nature side, though I personally disagree with the graffiti part, in my street theres nothing amazing or inspiring art there, just stupid gang signs.
nothing amazing like what you describe:
something like this (Click to Show)

this is the type of shit I have to deal everytime I drive my way home (idk its just not my taste but thats just me and where I live):
something like this (Click to Show)

But I still prefer Nature over Nurture, cause I believe that we're all gifted in our own way and no one can force us to bloom our creativity to perfection because theres no such thing as perfection. I'll now talk about my experiences and how its relatable to this, just like how you growing up while witnessing and inspired by amazing graffiti art in Lisbon's streets. I was inspired by watching a lot of movies and web videos, and thats pretty much about of me, here I am! lol... just some guy online making random content for the fun.

EDIT: Never mind I'm stupid, Its suppose to be vise versa. I choose Nature

Hewitt, don't you have those terms mixed up? Nature is the belief that you inherit your skills while Nurture upholds the tabula rasa school of thought.

Nature. Even though I agree with both, I feel most of my life experiences and self-image mostly come from nature itself; from both my real life environment (uni mates, family, sometimes public), and slightly internet. Also how I know my personality, how I interact with other people, how I understand things more easily by doing more than study its theory makes me more concerned with my nature belief.

EDIT: Just realized Nish is really right. John Locke's Tabula Rasa is generally used to describe the "Nurture" more. While onto the "Nature", your self-image comes since you were born and you believe it's not changing even when being affected with your environment. So yeah, I go with "nurture".

Oh man, and here I am; doubting my self-knowledge on these two when I already learned these theories at one of my psychology classes and I mixed terms up already before I graduate. John Locke for the win.

Despite Hewitt's fuck up, I would chose nurture. Even tho in every other situation I'd say that we're influenced by both.

We're already born with certain personality traits (The big five and all the sub- categories) that affect and determine how we handle and look at every situation. But we can still slightly change and alter these traits because they are not constant structures. Also high scores on, lets say neuroticism, does not imply that you're a neurotic, it implies that you're more likely to exhibit neurotic behavior in certain situations and such situations are created by our environment

I'm a total nurture guy, for the record. While there certainly is a strong element of nature in people, I believe it is dwarfed by the nurture side of it. Nature gives you the basic tools like intelligence and talent, but only nurture determines what you do with it and ends up playing a bigger role in most people's lives. It almost not even a competition between the two, in my opinion.

What about the Greek Heroes who ascended to godhood by working hard and becoming too badass to remain mortal?

But were YOU deified through nature or nurture? Did you march defiantly towards the Gods above you and demand a seat in their pantheon? Or did it simply fall on your lap because nature boohoo?

I think you're talking about Disney versions of Greek Heroes and not Greek Heroes themselves.
