Not at all. You can go there just to hang out with people, watch matches or play friendlies at most tournaments, competing usually cost extra but it is in no means required. (Talking from my own experience, it might differ between tournies.) You can go there with no experience and have a great time, I assure you. I would recommend bringing friends though, but it's obviously not required since you can always make friends at the tourney.

Well yeah, when you register for a tournament they'll ask for a gamertag, that's where you'll have to create one for yourself. If you do well at a tournament you'll probably get known for your gamertag rather than your real name, hence why HBox and M2K are known by those names.

Really excited to try out Corrin. Bayonetta doesn't really seem like a character that suits my play style too much, but he witch time is too damn cool to skip.
I'm getting Bayonetta the second I can. She seems to fit everything that I'm good at in Smash (Spacing, clutch counter timing, flashy combos) and I'm hyped as heck for her.
