I feel like people are getting more and more dependent on technology. So I came up with a not so likely theory that could theoretically happen.

In about 150 years or so...

Half the world's population are super dumb, and heavily rely on technology.
The other half are busy, productive people, making tons of new technology everyday and sending it to the other non productive population.

And so, one half of the world gets smarter and smarter, and the other gets dumber and dumber.
How likely is this theory, and if this happened, which side do you think you would be on?

I see you've put a lot of thought into this.

Your sources and research are undeniably legitimate and well worked.

McPerson is evolving from Poll Sectionist to General Sectionist.

Soon, his posts will start making sense as well. But not today.

Progress, no matter how small, is still progress.

Also, is this partially covered by Idiocracy? Someone's gotta keep things running.

why would these "technology creators" (aka everyone in any position related to research and development, engineering, manufacturing, marketing, I could go on) be separate from the population of people who are so dependent on what they create? why would these types of workers be any less dependent on something as broad as "technology"? do you think they go home after work and live entirely separate lives than anyone who uses the product and/or service they provide? why?

Sounds like a movie I watched where a person gets stuck in ice or something and gets unfrozen like 1000 years in the future or something and everyone is extremely dumb.

But the question is: how are we getting dumber?

I mean just because technology is around doesn't mean that the populations intelligence will go down.

I stopped asking questions when he expected us to survive 150 years to figure out which side we're on.

In this situation I think that jobs will decrease, as technology will be doing lots of jobs for people. Or they might increase, developing the technology and whatnot.

Well...

This certainly isn't impossible for sure, but I wouldn't think of it as a joke too much either.

In 150 years, I wouldn't be surprised if our brains were directly connected to a Google search function with a microchip or something. Simply wondering about a question could have it searching the entirety of human knowledge, and with the increase of AI technology and computer speeds it could be no slower than simply searching your memory for information, and it'd be damned good at pulling up exactly what you needed.

So probably, we'll all be super geniuses. But also dependant on the chips, and if they ever failed from EMP or whatever other reason we'd be lost.

I only have to think of people I've met today that don't follow this theory.

A top mathematics professor that can hardly work his phone. He doesn't directly create technology but is definitely not stupid.
An investment banker that only uses excel for his calculations. In a profession of some of the brightest in the city, facilitating acquisitions isn't really creating new technology.

There are so many sectors that don't create new technology but have some of the brightest minds working within them.
(More examples, tax/audit, psychologists etc..)
