Since I'm asked so directly (figured I'd go unnoticed), I might as well talk about it.

So, essentially, it's a colonization trip. The people who go there will be pioneers, first life on Mars in who knows how long (if ever). They'll go down in history, instantly famous.

I... don't much care for any of that. If I were to be entirely honest, I guess the reason I'd be willing to go is that, I don't see any real reason not to. Yeah, I guess I'd lose the things I've come to know here on Earth. Maybe we'd lose the ability to connect to the Internet, maybe we'd be living on bland foods for some time, maybe we'll be forced to interact with people we'll end up hating. But, it's something new. Something different. Even if I lived the rest of my life in honest contentment here on Earth, if I just passed up a chance like this, I'd always feel a sense of emptiness in myself. I can't say I'm some super adventurous soul, because it'd be a lie. I like new experiences, and at the same time, I like being able to expect things.

I guess the short of it is that it'd be fun, and I don't think I'd much regret it. I'm sure my friends and family would miss me, but I'm also sure they'd be pretty proud of me, so there won't be any seriously damaged relationships. So yeah, I'd go to Mars.

speaking of new experiences, wouldn't it make more sense to do a good job of thoroughly experiencing the earth first? i doubt you've traveled the world yet.
