Here we go again! Your favorite competition is back with 10 new rounds of insane combos! This is the competition that turned me into the animator that I am today and I’m very happy to be hosting it again!

Now lets get this show on the road!
_________________________________________

What is B.S.E.?
It's a very simple yet fun idea, you will be given a sequence of moves and a "theme" or a ”special element” that must be performed in a combo. The combo is being performed by ONE stickfigure against another stickfigure (unless you are being informed otherwise). The special element can be anything from superpowers and special weapons, to diffrent enviroments and music synchronization, While Themes can be something more broad, such as Sci-fi, Historical or Gore.

An example:

Combo: Punch, Punch, Kick, Kick, Kick."
Or "Punch, Kick, Throw.

Special element: The combo must be performed inside a wind tunnel.

The combos will become more advanced as the competition goes on, so the final round will have a great number of moves on the list.

How Many Rounds?:
There will be 10 rounds, each one will last 2-4 weeks. No rounds will be shortened or lengthened, even if everyone finishes their animations early, or most people don’t finish on time.

Length?
There will be NO minimum length. However, obviously, length may act as a catalyst for getting more points, which will be distributed for actual animating skill.

Can I miss a round?:
You are allowed to miss out rounds and you are allowed to join this competition at any round you want. Although this will obviously affect your overall score.

I'm finished!:
Great! Post the link to your animation on this thread. I'd suggest that you use Sta.sh or Youtube (Convert your SWF into a video format using Swivel first) to upload your animation. At the end of the 10th round a winner will be chosen from the highest overall score, and an award will be given to the highest scorer of every round. The top mark for each round will be 10, your end score will obviously then be out of 100.

_____________________________________

Round 2

Ended on May 4

Combo
Knee, Kick, Punch, Kick, Power-up*, Punch, Kick, Finisher

Theme
Video Games

Video games?
Probably a bit more fun than the theme from the last round. I think you get the idea! Just animate the combo with a theme from any video game!

*Power-up?
Make your character get a "power-up" of some sort. It could be anything from a simple super mario mushroom to a super saiyan from DBZ. Be creative!

Finisher?
For this round you get a bit more freedom as for what your finishing move is gonna be. Just try to make it as impressive as possible!

Why is the combo so short?
This is only the second round of the BSE. There are alot of new animators joining this competition. We're starting off easy and will gradually get more advanced.

Prizes!

The winner of each round gets 3 RHG trading cards! Second place gets 2, and third place gets 1! The prize for the overall winner will be revealed later on.

Spoiler (Click to Show)
ks look alot more balanced now. Creative way of exicuting the combo aswell. Overall good, but the part when he slams down the platform felt really strange. It's very sudden and first I thought the video skipped ahead or something.

acb - 7.5
Very nice animation overall. Nice finisher, very smooth and fluid movements and I really like how your sticks show alot of emotion. I feel like the brushstrokes could have been cleaner though. And adding some more special effects would have been nice.

AwesTube - 6.5
The animation is actualy really smooth and clean. I also like your multi-colored stickfigures. The attacks are not very clear though. Some of the attacks just look like tackles and I think It's a combination of the heads being a bit too large, the camera shaking a bit too hard and lack of anticipation for each attack. Its really hard to tell that the last kick actualy is a kick unless you go back and pause. I also think it ended way too sudden.

C3WhiteRose - 7.5
Very clean. And I gotta give you credit for implementing the theme to this extent ( I think alot of people are gonna ask you what game that is). My only real issue is the last punch wich I believe does not have a frame of the actual impact. And even though the pose after makes it clear that it's a punch, the glow and blur makes it a bit hard to see. Also, the combo is suposed to be performed 1 vs 1.

captain4dji - 5
Looks pretty good! You have to work on adding more force into your attacks. For example that last hammer swing, tri making the anticipation longer, and then making the actual swing instant (aka 1 frame). That way it will look more powerfull. Here are some examples https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDtmjIjy9kY - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muhBtDqDZ08

Corebunny - 4.5
The animation itself is pretty good. Although the combo is suposed to be performed by one stickfigure. The finisher also felt a bit simple for my taste. You should turn the smoothing up a bit for your stickfigures to look cleaner.

DiPi - 8.5
I love your style and how it's all synched to the music in such a jolly way. It makes me all happy! I have to say that the defending stickfigure gets sent airborn alot. I'd like to see a combo with this style performed on the ground more so I get to see how you manage to animate more natural reactions. Also your fire effects could use some work.

Drifts - 7
I can tell that this one was unfinished so no need to criticise on that. Beside the unperfected parts, this was really good. Can't really give you a higher score though due to the unfinished parts throwing me off.

EhMeD_Emer - 8
So good. Nice special effects and good balance between angles and 2D fighting. Also nice to see you trying a diffrent style this time! Although I feel like some attacks happen a bit too fast and recoil too much, therefore making some attacks unclear. Especialy on that first knee. Other than that, it's great! (btw that last "beam charge", was it inspired by my old lazer tutorial? X_x)

Egor - 7.5
The fighting is very clean and slick as usual. Also love your lightning effects. I gotta say that the backround is my main issue with this one. It looks verry rushed, and it doesnt look like they are standing on a flat ground. Therefore it's very confusing when he falls off at the end.

frNME - 7.5
really nice angles. Great finisher. I know you can do so much better though! The sticks look very messy and rushed, more so than the last round. I read that you rushed this in 2 days though. I just wish you'd use all the time given and you'd probably win the round!

GpB1010 - 2.5
Not much improvement from the last round. I had a look at your youtube channel and I can see that you've made a whole bunch of animations since you made this one. I think you should take your time and really work hard to perfect 1 animation instead of making a bunch of rushed ones. When you stop and really take your time to figure out ways to improve your work, thats when you improve.

HintHunter - 6
Thank you for your message sir :D! Your movements are smooth and clear. Backround looks rushed. The backflip needs inbetweens. But yeah, you already heard all of this ;)

Hydrios - 6.5
The combo is usualy ment to be performed against another stickfigure, although I guess that could be the SOUL of a stickfigure so I guess thats fine. Good overall. Nice music-synch. It looks very doubleframed though and could have used some inbetweens. Would also have liked to see more effort put into the finisher.

IsaacXBode - 7.5
While the animation was really well done in most aspects, the sounds were really messy. The music cuts out and the volume of the sound-effects went up and down randomly. This really threw me off.

Mattattack2 - 4.5
The movements are very choppy. The powerup looks pretty cool though! Although it ends very sudden and it doesnt feel like the final moves required the powerup at all. With all that lightning-fire-stuff you'd expect the following moves to involve those elements.

MetalOxide - 7
Nice and clean overall. Although the finisher felt too simple. At first I didnt even know why he took so long to fall down after that final slash. Having him strugle and show that he's in pain while he's loosing what's left in his healthbar would have made it more clear.

Mustika - 7
The movements are smooth, but they lack power. Try making the anticipation longer, and the hits faster. Also sometimes the reactions are a bit off, for example on the finisher hit. Being hit in the torso like that should make his torso bent towoards the ground rather than the other way around.

Neutral - 7.5
Clean looking backround and nice excicution. Overall great! Some inbetweens would make the movements look more smooth and fluid.

Op34 - 7.5
Very nice. I like the sparcle effects for each hit. Also nice angle with that fire kick. Next step would be to, like alot of other entries, add more inbetweens to make the movements look smoother.

Polymental - 3.5
The movements are actualy pretty smooth. But yeah the combo is pretty weak, and some soundeffects would have been nice. You should also practice your smoke-effects. Try making it expand more randomly or break it up into particles.

Rayzor - 8
Two loading screens? Anyways I really like this one. It implemented the theme very well, the animation is smooth and the finisher was pretty creative. I do feel like the sticks could have been drawn smoother in some parts.

Sans - 3.5
Some of the close-ups looked pretty nice. Although I think you should focus more on nailing a basic 2D fight before adding too many angles. The finisher is also very unclear on what happens to him.

SDK-Anims - 4
You have to work on easing out your movements and adding recoils. Once you make a punch, the movement should not instantly stop once it makes contact with the opponent. It should recoil back alittle, or continue on forwoard.

Spreckups - 6
I love you for picking this game! Nice force in your attacks, typhical Zetabrand style. Although I feel like your special effects have alot of room for improvement. Right now they are usualy just tweened symbols that are also too simply drawn for my taste.

Stone - 7
Well I can tell that the ending was pretty rushed. Overall the combo looks good, good job on the angles and nice touch with the voiceacting. I do know though that you are able to animate it much smoother instead of it being this doubleframed. Also I feel like alot of soundeffects are missing. Like the ground cracking and the beam in the end. The backround also look quite dull for being a tribute to Sonic.

Sun Animates - 1.5
I could not make much sence of what happend in this animation at all. I'd suggest that you practice some of the very basics of animation. This series could be very helpfull https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haa7n3UGyDc

TheBestG - 6.5
The animation itself is nice. I like those spark effects on some of the hits. First off you should have exported it with a higher sound quality. It also felt a bit rushed, especialy the ending.

the new one2 - 5
It's decent. The movements are quite wobbly and lack anticipation. There needs to be a balance between fast and slow movements to add anticipation and force to your attacks. Here everything just moved at the same pace. You should also add soundeffects.

WariosZ - 7
I'd like to give this a higher score, but the combo is ment to be performed by 1 stickfigure against only 1 stickfigure unless the theme says otherwise. The animation itself is really sweet though! I really like the mixture of pixelated characters along with a smooth one. Nice finisher too!

WitherAnims - 2
Looks very wobbly and it's hard to follow what happens. The backround could really use some work too. I'd sugest for you aswell to watch some tutorials for the basics in animation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haa7n3UGyDc[/spoiler]

Spoiler (Click to Show)
are like... floating is a part of your style right?, it makes it look weird/incomplete, but is not gonna affect your score or anything, just giving out a thought. Now about the animation, the thiing that really bothered me was that you made one of the sticks with a REALLY similar color to the background's, so when the orange stick did his power-up attack I legit didn't know where the green stick was, it like camouflaged into the background it was really confusing, also adding a bit of sfx in at the begining where the dude was using his shield would've been great, because I have no idea what happened there

Is anime too far of a deviation from video games? For example, I'm thinking of doing something related to One Piece, would this be OK?

No, it can only be counted as a combo if the hits actually land on the other person. Last I checked, you don't count punching the air as a combo

What you could do is that you have the settings and the figures to be One Piece characters, but still keeping the video game theme to it. You could have the power up be like eating a devil fruit or something. There have been plenty of One Piece games, check those out too.

Well the actions (or moves) in most One Piece video games are the same as the ones from the anime, so if I, hypothetically, had Zoro do the combo on enemy Marines, would that be considered "video game" themed if it contained actual moves (in the finisher)?

It can be just one extra powerfull hit, or a series of hits. But It should be made clear that those hits are the finisher.

If an attack misses, that would interupt the combo. But you can have the defending stickfigure throw some attacks that misses

Depending on how far you stretch away from the actual theme, it will affect your score. Although you could make One Piece characters fight in Super Mario World for example.
It all depends on what score you want. Implementing the gaming theme in advanced and creative ways will give you better scores than just having a hint of gaming in there. If you perform the whole combo while running through a Sonic level would give you a better score than if you had a fight in a normal non-game arena and only having a hadooken as a finisher. You have free hands with this. Just try to impress the judges.

Are all rounds going to have a theme instead of a special element now? I mean of course I could add my own special element but it would be nice to see one because that's what personally made the previous versions so fun in my opinion.

EDIT: Actually, nevermind. I just read the first post which explains it already.

In some games the main hero has a sidekick, like Ratchet and Clank for example. Is it ok if the sidekick does a hit too?

Were you specifically disallowed to do it or did you just not ask?
