To be honest I'm not tripping over myself to talk to anyone here in real time, anything worth talking about (debates, comments on an animation, etc) should need a reply-sized amount of text anyway. If you're desperate enough to chat to people then the IRC exists, but anything reasonable posted in the shoutbox would most likely quickly get buried by useless junk. Add to that the fact that it would be extra work for the admins to implement and be another thing to moderate, it's not worth it.

Quote from FloydyboyWe might as well replace the chat thread if we get a chat room.
And the minimum should be 270 posts.
I hope you realize that's blasphemy, and the gods will not stand for that.

Quote from WartoothYes, we should take one and retemplate it if necesarry.
retemplate... just like we retemplated the forums?

Quote from sAcReDWell so far, Mantha is the only one having an opinion on this.
And it's a negative.
Zed has an opinion too, and it's also broadly negative. I'm not massively against it, but I find the things slightly annoying and I prefer talking in forum style than in real time. I dislike having to reply to people instantly. Take my Wartooth debate right now. I've seen his reply, but I was just about to go to bed so I left it until this morning, and it's still there. That's what I like. I know you could say I should just ignore it, but I know people will try to get me talking up there anyway.
There's also the fact that I like reading conversations through from start to finish. I don't want to come in at the tail-end repeating stuff that's already been said or not understanding what's going on. Sometimes I might want to reply to something that's been said much earlier. Like I am now.
Quote from BlasphemerWe can still outvote them.
Oligarchy biatch. You will do as you're told.

This.
Idk why some people think this is a democracy. It would be a bitch to moderate, honestly.

I don't know why people think being moderators or starting a forum makes you infinitely more wiser about the decisions made on that forum than the people who generally frequent it as much as or more than the average mod/admin, but that's just me
This is getting a bit heated, no? If you don't want to chat then don't ****ing chat, I was under the impression the IRC didn't work anymore, just use that if you want to for ****'s sake and be done with this.
Apr 12, 2010 11:58 AM #568283
Nope, it doesn't make anyone wiser or whatever, but it's the staff that usually has to clean up everything. So it's usually just the staff deciding on those things, believe it or not. So yes, it's just you.
Well you're the only one making this situation heated now. It's just a forum discussion, don't get all upset because of it. Plus what Zed said was a lot harsher and yet you attack me? Seriously, stop getting your panties in a bunch over nothing and randomly attacking. I don't really know what are you getting at with your second paragraph, so I won't bother replying to the rest of it.

We don't necessarily know better, but the fact remains that voting won't necessarily make it happen. It may be that we know we won't mod it well enough for it to be good, or we may just feel self-centred. Equally, suggestions may get discussed and enacted. My point was merely that voting isn't going to get you too far.
Apr 12, 2010 12:21 PM #568291
Obviously voting doesn't automatically force you to go through with whatever is decided through the vote, but it is reasonable to assume that it would affect your decision-making. After all, this forum is created by its users, for its users, and it is upheld by its users. Anything proposed to make the community a better place should be seriously considered, especially if the majority of the users favour that proposition.

Well yeah, but Blasphemer said people can outvote us. Of course what you say now, alive, is correct ...

I happen to moderate the lobby/chat room of a different site... I could do it for this if it was ever brought up.
Of course we probably wont get one in the first place, but just in case :o

It's a great idea, but to stop the really annoying people going into chat we should have a 500+ or 600+ posts rule.
Apr 12, 2010 6:58 PM #568402
I think if anyone would moderate the chat it would be the forum moderators.
Apr 12, 2010 7:06 PM #568407
What about the NTF member? Would they get promoted to moderators on the chat? But stay as NTF on the forum?

I know but the whole "this is a dictatorship, not a democracy" idea that zulu started that's seemed to trickle down to the mods is one of the most annoying positions I think someone can take
Having been a mod myself I would have never said that I know what was best for the community just because of the position, if enough people think it's a good idea it most likely is and would be worth exploring, even if a few mods might not think so.
