Okay, so it's a bit late so I don't think we can call them 'first impressions' anymore, but I still want to write about everything I'm watching, so here we go. Impressions:

aldnoah season 2 (Click to Show)

Assassination Classroom (Click to Show)

Death Parade (Click to Show)

Durarararaaraararararararararararararararararara (Click to Show)

Maria the Virgin Witch (Click to Show)

Rolling Girls (Click to Show)

Saekano (Click to Show)

Tokyo Ghoul (Click to Show)

Yatterman Night (Click to Show)

My thoughts on Your Lie in April, Parasyte, Log Horizon, and Shirobako haven't changed much since the last time I would have ranted about them, so I didn't bother with a write up.

So Drone, how's your review coming along?

It's not very good at the very least
it's not soul crushingly horrible either
and jelly, I'm mostly still in the watching and taking notes phase right now cus of all the stuff I had to do during the week.

The fact that it had the potential to be as good or even better than Parasyte but decided to settle for mediocrity is soul crushing.

So I just finished re-watching Anohana, it felt really strange being smashed with a wave of feels and nostalgia the first time I heard the op, but it's nice knowing my opinions on it haven't changed which means I'm not quite dead inside yet. But I find it interesting that I get swept away so easily by shows like Anohana and Toradora where I struggle to suspend my disbelief while watching shows like True Tears and White Album 2 and end up nitpicking them to death...

yeah, idk what exactly it is, but some shows just get you
it might just be that the writing in toradora and anohana or anonatsu and nagiasu is just superior to something like white album or true tears...
In fact, that's definitely the case, but I'm not sure like, what it is about them that makes them better, because for all intensive purposes they're pretty much the same plot wise
disregarding the supernatural aspects of course

Why don't you like saekano that much? I'm about two episodes behind. I'm enjoying it so far.

I feel like how it's directed would have a lot to do with it, but that's something I don't know very much about so don't feel like I can make that call.

I just don't find it funny, it also doesn't have the wit of My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU and isn't silly enough to be like The World God Only Knows. I also dislike stereotypical otaku characters...

So yeah, I'm left with a pretty generic romcom that I don't find funny and has a rather weak romantic subplot once you take away the humour. It also doesn't help that this is the kind of show that needs the characters to sell it and at the moment I find all of them to be cardboard cut outs of their respective archetype, which at this point in time I find more boring than endearing. It definitely looks good but for this day and age that's not really a selling point anymore, nearly everything looks good.

I don't think I'll ever say it's bad, I can see why other people would enjoy it, but it's just not for me. Though I doubt it'll be any better than Haganai.

I just finished Kyokai no Kanata. I think it deserved more episodes since I feel like it was too rushed, although I don't think I should complain because I found it visually spectacular, and that's probably one of the reasons why I love it. I mean like seeing a fucking cartoon character smile never felt so satisfying/emotionally provoking. I imagine that if it was 24 episodes then it wouldn't look as beautiful as it does.

It's been a while since I've watched an anime that left me wanting to relive the entire time that I was watching it, and I have to say this one made me remember how it feels like.

I was looking at MAL to see if it had some OVAs that I didn't know about, then I found out this anime is quite controversial. How unpleasant.

So you're going to overlook some pretty serious problems because they didn't have enough episodes even though they seemed to have time for this?

But in all seriousness I generally agree with you. I was probably most disappointed with the lackluster world building.

Well I like that episode soooo..........

But like I feel one episode won't really make up for all of the missing parts. Like I think however they try, 12-episodes isn't really going to make it a thoroughly-told story so they just went with the skeleton and added that filler in so they can divide the arcs.

I really can't bring myself to focus on big problems when the show gave us this gif:

You can do so much in 12 episodes man
Kyokai no kanata just fucked around with the pacing a bit too much for it to work out. Overall it wasn't bad, but it wasn't spectacular either
Kyoanis animation is fantastic as usual though
and I really liked the ova

I'm still mad about Grisaia.

Did anyone see that shit? They literally tried to condense routes with 10+ hours of content from the original VN into 1 or 2 episodes.
Well, at least they reserved time for the last route and the common start was ok.

Yeah dude, that adaptation was pretty much all around straight up trash
you could tell how rushed the arcs were, everything was a jumbled mess. That's what happens when your source material is abundant but your budget isn't
