Two wrongs don't make a right to me. And killing or murder is wrong to me, no matter what. I realize they killed so should be killed, but what lesson is learned? Once they're dead that's it, they won't have to deal with anything again so it's not much of a lesson. They may be upset during their sit in chair, but it will be over soon, and they'll not remember anything they did because they're dead.

As for life in prison, causes lots of psychological problems. They will most likely begin to hate never seeing the outside ever again. And a majority of prisoners go insane or begin to lose it because of the trauma of just being in jail. Also, sometimes, people change which no one believes. "They are a murderer, they will never change" some people instantly regret it, so killing all of them as if each and everyone is a heartless monster bugs me. I don't believe in killing for any reason except for self defense to save your own life.

What about people who are unable to feel empathy? They're incapable of changing, and unable to see how their actions are morally wrong. A lot of serial killers are like this.
Should these people get executed or should they be kept in solitary confinement for the rest of their lives, because they're unable to function in society?

Imo death penalty can be justified in special cases, but shouldn't really be a punishment in any court system.

The exceptions are often the ones who do murder. You can't overlook them. If someone goes out and breaks the law, committing murder, there's a good chance that there IS something wrong with them.
However, before you punish someone for their actions you have to look at their motives first.

If the convict admits to murdering and torturing a family for his own pleasure and personal gain, he probably should be put to death. (Assuming you can be sure that he did do it.)
Assisted suicide would be completely different kind of murder though, and the accused shouldn't get the same kind of punishment that a real murderer would.

But what about the people who feel no empathy

I did some more research and thought about it a bit more. When it comes to the death penalty specifically, it is revenge. Revenge and punishment are extremely hard to distinguish between and even harder to prove which one is happening. Overall the death penalty is revenge because you aren't trying to help the person or rehabilitate them you are merely killing them. As for it's lawfulness, I think Godmouth explained very well how and why it's implemented.

Personally I don't know what to think about the death penalty. It saves lots of money but it's most definitely wrong. I have a feeling that most of us would be for it if we had to face the man that killed one of our loved ones. Really the death penalty is simple a means of revenge and a money saver.

@Camila No its not, what if they are taking loans?Do you know the whole point of school Camila? Its so you can learn shit and be HELPFUL to SOCIETY. If your murdering people and wasting money, especialy in our horrible economy situation(america). You need to kick the bucket.Becuase all your doing is killing others who COULD help society. And to every body else, execution isnt a punishment. Its a penalty,(which makes no sense, since they are interelated) so that means you suffer, your not supposed learn.Hence the name, death PENALTY. Its like in soccer, if you foul somebody in the box, with no ball contact first(yes, i watch soccer) its a penalty. The refferee doesnt give you another chance. Thats the whole point, your not supposed to be given another chance with the death penalty.

You just die.

Shit I forgot that America existed, sorry.

In relation to your post though, I don't think you can compare the death penalty to a penalty in football/soccer. For one, there isn't the same sort of finality with a red card. The player can return to playing in a game or 2. So in a sense they are given another chance. Secondly, the finality is on a whole different scale and no morals are called into question with the passing of a red card.

The question on the death penalty comes down to 2 things:
1) Morality - Should the state have the authority to take somebodies life
2) Practicality - is it more practical for a person to be executed than to be sentenced to life imprisonment

Then there's issues that cross into both fields, such as the issue of innocents being killed. That calls morality into question for obvious reasons, and also practicality as it's not practical for a contributing member of society to be unjustly killed.

I personally believe that the question of morality should be answered before answering the issue of practicality, and as such I don't think any arguments about "saving money" and the likes should be argued until AFTER we've agreed that the death penalty is moral. And I addressed in my post on the previous page (or the one before) as to why I don't think it's moral.

oh... you just didn't compare football to the death penalty, you gotta be kidding me

Look, No one has the right to say "yes this guy deserves to die". If someone murders 10-15 people, I would rather to watch him rot in jail, instead of making him a favor a kill him. You can make that bastard to work in jail, that way it'll not be a total "waste" of money.

That still doesn't address my response. The analogy doesn't really work, and practicality is irrelevant for the time-being.

Kill get killed, it'll just create an infinite loop, it doesn't even solves the problem. It's a really primitive behavior in my opinion

Yukio said it already: "eye for eye, and the world will get blind"
