I will attempt to join you in that game then... if I can.

But isn't the point being able to read someone else's wRHG before you challenge them anyway? If you can look in one thread you can look through the others to challenge them. I don't know.

Hey guys I've noticed that there are a lack of battles in comparison to the amount of gladiators. Mainly because others aren't challenging each other. I say we create a thread where people can say whether or not they're open for battle. Anyone else agree?

To be fair, it is finals time, but I feel like most of the issue is people lying around waiting to be challenged. I know I've got a battle pending, and the finals for the tournament is going on, but I still think there's that "Someone's going to challenge my amazing character!" mentality going around.

Personally I think we just need to put "Availability" in the Hall of Warriors, with the default being "No" for those who are inactive. An entire thread just to check each other up seems redundant, doesn't it? I mean for one, why not just do it here? Just saying.

I thought about the Availability thing when I first took over from Devour, but that seems like a lot to manage for one thing. Keep up with battles, be active with who's new, bounce around scoring, and making edits as needed, maybe it doesn't sound like much to you because you run events often, but with the availability update you'd also need to make sure people aren't just dropping off the map to make them "Unavailable". It'd become a chore real quick and get neglected (unless you're up for it acute). Now that I think of it though, even though a thread would be unnecessary, perhaps one in the group thing wouldn't. I can set one up there when some free time opens up, and we can link it to the hall so it doesn't gain dust when the SP Writer's group is forgotten soon after. I could take off Actives that fail to renew each month, as well as announce to VM me Active/Unactive and edit accordingly.

It may be that, but I don't think it really is. I think most people are like me and just shy to challenge others for a first battle etc.
It was really hard for me to challenge someone else, because I am really shy.
Plus the people who have the characters I am REALLY interested in would completely own my face. Like Sacred.
Don't leave this hanging here. I may end up seeing it and actually challenging Sacred. That would be a bad idea.
Please don't make me do this.

Regarding the availability thing, don't we have the ability to edit our wRHG's thread-titles? Can't we just put something like [AVAILABLE] Bob the Mightiest Warrior? I thought people did that already, too.

EDIT: Might I suggest, for the Hall of Warriors, that it is simply updated on a regular interval, since acute already seems to keep an eye on it, but waits until an accumulation of things occurs to update it. I think that, if nothing else, it would purge all doubts about the activity, there, to know that every x-period of time the thread is updated if there's an update to be made.

Oh yeah. Sorry, I forgot we were the writers and we're more reserved than that.

Technically speaking you can, but most people don't. Page 1 alone shows no one with a definitive Available/Unavailable header status.
And I know she keeps up with it, she's very acute with all the edits. It's just that this would be a lot of maintenance to add on.

I'll just make the group, I've got a chunk of free time now, and I could do shuffle a event every so often for the people who don't actively seek out challenges but are longing for battle.

You saved me.
You can? Oh that's a good idea. I fully support this idea.

You would have to go a bit further than that because I can assure you that people will still forget about it. There's no real notification about activity in the group as well, which just makes it even easier to forget. I find this to be the best idea to keep track of the availability but you would have to confirm whether or not they just forgot to renew or they are genuinely inactive. You could send them a PM to remind them and give them like 2 or 3 days before putting them as unavailable.
It would still become a chore pretty quickly, but maybe there's no real way around that.

As for the lack of challanges, I've got a different theory.
We're afraid that our work will be for naught.
When challenging someone, we want to make sure they will keep their end of the deal, we're curious to see how they portray our amazing character and we want the satisfaction of beating them in a public vote, but when challenging someone we have nothing to make sure that things will even reach that stage other than their word, and what's the value of someone's word on the internet? The other person may not have bad intentions, but he/she very well might not be able to uphold his compromise.
What's the safest way to avoid this? By having people challenge us instead, becase if they went out of their way to come after us, then we know beforehand that they at least have a bigger interest and a bigger chance to actually come through with the battle.

I know it will, and you've got a good point with the take off thing too. For the time being though, I'm going to keep it in my sig and request acute to put a link on the hall.

I found out what game we played. It was Call of Cthulhu. How the heck did I forget fighting Cthulhu? O_O I keep remembering losing so much sanity...Haha. I was the insane one in the group.

oh man CoC is amazing. Too bad my group doesnt really tabletop RP much. We're more into board and card of the Deception and Co-op variety (which is why i host mafia games so much). We did run Mansions of Madness once as well as Unknown Armies. Weird times.

For the record, it does sound like work to me. I was only suggesting it because I'm not the one maintaining the Hall and that I know for a fact that acute is diligent with no other events planned so her attention is on that place alone.

Heh, I didn't mean it as a jab if it sounded that way, it was more of an afterthought with all the work you put into the tournament

Is there a place I could post the bios for a few of my other OC's? I've built a great many characters in my life and would love to share my ideas to possibly give ideas to those who find themselves stuck for a wRHG character idea. My many bios could serve as potential inspiration and I'd love to help the new bloods in any way possible.

You can post it in the O.lit section like my daydreams thread and my soon to be setting thread.

If there was one AH that I had wanted to play, it would have been The King in Yellow. The cover of the game itself was creepy and piqued my interest almost immediately. The price tag, however, shattered that interest. xD We are currently deciding if we should pool resources as a group or just go about and buy different ones simultaneously.

Anyways, the availability of gladiators seems hard to manage by just a single person. I also agree with what SJCRPV said, sometimes we wait for people to challenge us instead of the other way around. I'm going around this little fear of mine soon and begin to challenge people. Come on guys, keep combat alive xD
