But it can't stay just like nothing has happened!

Over 20 children died a few days ago; CHILDREN man, between 5 and 10 years old, just because of a stupid retarded guy with mental problems that had the possibility to go and get a gun THAT easy. Something must change, maybe not in a drastic way, but START to do somethig now.

Get your shit straight before you spring into an argument about it! The guns were his MOTHERS. She went out, obtained a license, took a test, and bought them in the most legal way possible. Gun control isn't the issue with that shooting, it's the mental state of the man who did it. Maybe she could have hid her weapons better, but even if that were a possibility, the ease with which you can "go out and buy a gun" is completely irrelevant.

The fact that guns are so widespread is a part of the issue. Why the fuck did her mother have guns?

Before you get the right to possess a gun, you need a reason as to why you want one, and you need to meet the qualifications of a mentally stable individual.

Shit's sake, you people see one thing vaguely having to do with one of your more controversial beliefs, and you fly into a frenzy claiming facts that aren't facts and making "arguments" with moot points. I'm entirely pro gun control, but if we're going to do it we have to do it right.

His mother was perfectly sane, and it isn't a crime to own a weapon. He's the one that did the shooting, and it sounds a lot like you're blaming her for having guns in the first place despite the fact that she was one of his first victims. The point could easily be made that you want a gun for self defense, and then your case could be rested.

Specially if there're people with mental issues, there shouldn't be such a "freedom" to go and get a weapon.

We could have a completely formal and actual debate if you wan't.... But I doubt anyone would be that invested into the topic to really participate. Sounds like a fun idea tho.

I'm going to assume you've moved away from the Newtown massacre, and say yes, that's an issue. But if we went so far as to address it, I'm sure there would be some ass who would start a movement based on the 'fact' that "We're taking away the rights of the disabled"

Basically, it's no freedom if you use the gun to kill people because at the end it takes away your freedom.

Well I read in the newspaper, that probably the majority of the people in the US *will still be* in favor of guns, and some Spanish dude that said guns had nothing to do with it, it was the american people who where a violent and oppressive society (please don't take this as my words, and consider it as a generalization), and events like these would keep happening, even with sticks and stones.
You have to worry about the people, not the guns.

We have to worry about what surrounded them for years, violent videogames, violent films. Even in their childhood was lots of violent things like tom and jerry, even though there is no blood; it already makes them think in a more aggressive way. The things that interact around them, if their parents were abusive or aggressive, they will act like them. The surroundings that interpret with them are what completely constructs their view on the world.

You can't own a gun just for shits and giggles in Finland. "Self defense" is not reason enough. Shooting has to at least be your hobby, and you have to have some experience in using one before you can own it. After you own a gun, it's your responsibility to keep it safe from the wrong hands.

Finland doesn't have two massacres a year. Gun control in Finland is a moot point.

... are you serious? Shit's sake, videogames have nothing to do with it. All that crap you here about "impressionable youth" is just bewildered people trying to find something to blame for an event that goes against everything they believe in. If you're in that mindset, you might as well get off the forum, because stick fights are violent and could end up causing you to murder people.

Still, Finland has the world's 19th highest suicide rates, way more than USA. The reason there aren't many shootings like that, is because of gun control.
I would blame her for owning a gun that she probably doesn't need, and for not keeping it safe from her son. (Who she should know well enough, to tell that something is seriously wrong with him.)
