Oh nice. How are the afterglows with soundstage? ie. hearing the direction of the sounds origin. Those PS3 headphones are actually the first ones Sony tried to make. They released an upgraded version awhile back (i actually bought these for a friend. Was about $140):

I only listened to them briefly and I was drunk so I can't really tell how they sounded. I do know most gaming headsets won't really approach the sound clarity of the m50s as they are intended as studio monitor headphones. Atleast in the price range of $100 - $250. Who knows.

NEVER BUY BEATS. Beats are basically the Apple of headphones, but worse.

> Terrible grainy sound
> Overpowering bass ruins mids/treble
> Overpriced as fuck (The most expensive, beats pros, cost $400+ and still don't sound as good as the m50s)
> Beats are terrible value for money when it comes to headphones. They sound like $30 headphones yet they cost $200 - $400.
> basically a 200-400 dollar fashion assessory
> don't be fooled by marketting
> I mean it
>seriously

Anyway, if in the future I feel like upgrading headphones (although I am perfectly happy right now) I might go for the Sennheiser HD650s. Only thing I dislike about them is that I heard they give a more distanced presentation where it sounds as though the sound is coming from further away. Although I only heard this mentioned by headphonic (possibly Australias best headphone shop which I happen to live just a mere 10 minutes away from c:. )

I would say that the headphones provides sounds good for its price. The major negative is that there is a consistant buzzing static noise when you increase the volume, which can get quite annoying but you learn to deal with it.
It has three modes, pure audio, bass boost and immersive.
Pure audio = raw audio with no enhancements
bass boost = improved bass sounds
immersive = more clearer sound quality and a better sound stage
Somehow moving from pure to immersible the buzz/static sounds get more intense, but bearable in my opinion anyway and when you're in a game you tend to forget about it. There is a great difference in sound quality in immersive mode compared to the other two. However between pure and bass, I can only see a slight if not minor difference (maybe my ears aren't that great at recognizing these things).

On immersive it is good but not spectacular. You can hear enemy footsteps given that there is no gunfire however the direction it is coming from can be difficult to determine (I'm using CSGO in this instance as an example). You can also predict the general direction the gunshots and so forth. I would say it does give you an "immersive" experience.

I can see headsets that can outdo the one that I have if you pay more cash. But in the price range of $100 less, it is defiantly one of the upper range headsets. It's been a while but my PS3 headset might have had better sound quality compared to my current one (not 100% sure). But considering the other thing the Afterglows offer, it is good for its price despite some flaws.

I'll take your word for beats headphones. Thanks for the heads up.

Envoy the buzzing noise you hear, is that only when they're connected? If they aren't connected to anything does it go away? If so you have to either work on your levels or fix the shielding on whatever device you're using them with. I can't use the front panel input on my PC because my case isn't properly shielded, so there's noise from the electronics in my computer being picked up by the shitty wires and transferred to my headset. Using the headset on a proper device with good shielding eliminates the noise.

Try putting it through your computers sound card. Or with any kind of amplifier / source / DAC. I imagine it's probably just the headphones, but maybe the ps3 soundcard is just plain shit.

AKG K701's

Some of the best headphones for mixing music, they have an extremely flat and accurate frequency response. The cable going into the earcup is frayed, though, and recently it quit working altogether. If repairing them doesn't work I'll have to replace them.. not looking forward to that.
