Condemned 2 had some pretty scary parts in the first half. There's something about fighting crazed hobos in alleyways armed only with a sturdy pipe that gets to you after a while.
I think a recurring theme in these scary moments is the fact that you either can't fight back against the insane shit you encounter (Amnesia, Ao Oni) or you suck at fighting them (Silent Hill, evil Samus in Metroid Fusion). That's why I never found the Dead Space franchise particularly scary, because if a monster jumps out you have the option to saw off their arms or smash open their head with your fucking three-ton galoshes. DS3 sucked all the survival-horror out of the game with the ability to customize weapons and having universal ammo littered everywhere, which kind of disappointed me.

Anyways, my first scary game experience was the original Silent Hill Trilogy (and The Room eventually). So, you all probably know what to expect. You guys might find it common in LPs these days but back then the only way to experience the scare was to be there. With friends. Here's some highlights:
Sorry bout that. I just can't stop thinking about you Hewitt... No but seriously I fucking love the Silent Hill Series. The first 4 are amazing and should be played by all.

Wasn't Dead Hand from Occarina of Time?
Either way, still one scary mother fucker, indeed.
Same with the Re-Dead, god I fucking hate those things.
And Siren Blood Curse, yeah, scary fucking game, but I think the hospital was worse than the old house.
Firstly, you're a little girl compared to a fully grown adult (who can beat the living shit out of the zombie policeman....despite it doesn't do anything, but it makes you feel more in power in the situation), so you're helpless if anything comes near you. The nurse is fucking scary, that voice and the '..who's there?" just makes you want the girl to scream back 'no-one, shut the fuck up and leave me the fuck alone!', and instead of large hiding spots like the wardrobe where you could seemingly burst the door open and kick the policeman and just run for life, you have to hide in narrow, spots where that kind of escape is implausable, such as hiding under tables in really dark rooms and such. And being that helpless little gurl against that creepy fucking nurse, I'd rather not be reminded.

That fight with Matt Helms in No More Heroes scared the fuck out of me.
I don't know why.

Rayman 3 - Hoodlum Havoc - Desert of the Ughh....Canaran, is it? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, I was really young playing this, and this part was really scary for the innocent little mind I had playing it. The roars, quotes and lurking stature of these things always really scared me to one point nearly tears. Don't say anything funny or witty, I was very young and like I said I scare easy. I don't have this game anymore so I can't go back and think about this whole experience again only from memories from a ling time ago.
Desert of the Knaarens! That was indeed really scary for me when I was younger. I had nightmares about them for a month! There is also those zombie chicken ghost that comes from nowhere and then that intense stressing music start. And they were looking pretty creepy. I still have that game which I totally love, as you can see in my sig.

The moderation applications are closed. All the new mods have been decided (of which I am one and proud).
Also, this terrified me as a child:
