YOU CANT BE FREE AND DO SOMETHING out OF PREDICTIBILITY.

1. because human being ar created in such way that their mental ability relys on a pattern of functions and you are not thinking randmly, your brain is recycling ideas over and over until your conciousness or your brain automatically understands that these ideas match the subject your thinking bout.
2. your brain is made out of cells the function strictly under the command of there nucleus and genetics [DNA] which can not recreat there self in a different structure to think something other then what what evelution has programed into it.
3. being free and random is still not free. the only thing that is free is the number 0 because it relies on infinity and is the moste powerful number in the univers, but ther is no such physical structure.

{ For belevers of God]

In other view :

God created us in a way that we couldn't think beyond what he wants us to , thats why we don't even know what's inside of us but still we live upon experience and if you havent notice...god didn't program your brain to understand how god is there and he lives forever and you cant think in infinity.

and because your made of cells ...you cant NOt think for a millisecod even if you tried.

I agree completely, if we really did have free will and tried to do something completely unexpected, (I just said banana outloud) then we would have to already expect us to say that before we can say that, and by knowing what your going to do you have no free will

Well the term "Free Will" depends on how you look at it.For instance:A man and a woman bump into each other on the street(unexpected) the man says "Sorry"(expected). Thus the term "Free Will" describes the ability to pose any action you chose while noone can stop you mentally.

I wonder what the movie would be like?

It would be fairly decent, pull in some favourable reviews, and then finally be followed up by Bible Re-evolution.

Which would be awesome and have everybody orgasming.

And Mary Poppins would make a guest appearance.

ok well i just thought of something. what about when you're a baby? what "makes" you from your past experiences decide to look up and around, and cry when they slap you on the ass? seriously im asking you (not a rhetorical question).

Free Will, I thinks, is just an illusion. Doesn't really exist. If there was a way to observe every single small particle in a closed environment, it would be possible to predict what they would do very perfectly. If you decide to eat a PB & J for lunch, you believe you did it out of free will, but it is really because your body craved a PB & J or your mind or whatever. Or there was nothing else to eat.
But the important thing is that it doesn't matter.
If there were a criminal who raped and murdered, should he go to jail? Yes. You can't just say, "it's not his fault, he was forced to do it by his environment". BS.
So yes, it doesn't exist, but you have to act as if it does.

Yet another awesome ash thread.
I don't think this really needs to be debated at all, you just put it here to show other people, but most won't change their beliefs.

This theory applies not just to choice, but to everything, right?
If it happens, it was going to happen anyway, the circumstances were right?

The only reason we cannot predict the future is because we cannot yet build a computer powerful enough to take all circumstances into account, every single atom and energy state in the universe, and the computer would then have to take itself into account. Rather hard, if you ask me.

It's nice when i come up with a theory and it turns out it actually exists.
