I seriously interpreted these as hate. Maybe I missed something.

We weren't really against him. We just dislike his way of gaming and that's that.

*shrug*
Anyways, that's my opinion. No clue why so many people hate him.

I specifically said that YT was designed to house his videos and popularize them. I did not mean to imply that I hate him because he's popular, but that he is only popular because the universe he resides acknowledges his popularity as legit. I never said anything about pewds being a dick or a bad person. I even expound on this in a later post further on in a thread. He isn't bad. He just makes bad videos, devolved from his initial ones that were actually good.

Also, it's been established and discussed that people who hate Pewds are either jealous of his fame, or believe that it is quite a popular thing now to rag on him.

Don't just jump into the conversation. Read everything first.

I'll play devil's advocate here.

I don't see how you can hate someone who not only participates in charities, but also encourages others to do the same.

As my first act of devil's advocate, I can assure you that their are plenty of people who donate to charities for the attention. I'm not necessarily pointing a finger at PewDiePie, but donating to charities doesn't automatically make you a better person. In fact, that's usually what they want you to think.

Furthermore, nobody is strapping you down and forcing you to watch his videos.

That really applies to everything. If you hate something, then don't involve yourself with it. But that also doesn't mean that whatever you're not involving yourself with can't receive criticism.

*Please note I'm referring to him when he originally got famous, not at this point in time.

What do you mean by that?

That's fair enough. People do sometimes donate to charity just for attention, but you're missing the point that they did just give money to charity. Even if their intention wasn't truly for charity, they still helped.

No, see, the point here that I'm trying to make is that criticizing celebrities can be very counterproductive. Rather than getting people to stay away from the Pewdiepie fanbase, you're probably encouraging them to go look it up just to see what all the fuss is about. Not only are you making everyone more aware that they exist, you're giving them potential to grow and get more of a fanbase.

As in, I can see legitimate reasons not to like the guy nowadays. Like the fact that he's a role model, but has a horrible attitude or does drugs. When he originally got famous, everyone started hating him without much of a reason.

But my point was never questioning whether or not he donated to charity, it was the motive behind it. What's put to question here isn't the fact that he donated, but his overall attitude towards popularity. We can all agree that he donated, no one's arguing that. Ultimately though, when it comes to judging a person, the main factor is never what he did but why he did it.

Aaaaaaaaaaand there goes your point

But Pewds isn't doing shit for attention. Just because he's famous for his bullshit attitude doesn't mean he's forever like that.

I'm not saying he's doing it so he can become famous, I'm just saying that you should take everything you see with a grain of salt because there's always the possibility of the alternative.

I have to purely disagree that attention isn't a reason for him doing this.

Sure, it's nice that he's donating. Good for him. Some things in the video bothered me though, more specifically the "#SaveTheChildrenBros" and the "one dollar every thousand views". Yes, I know that the video does not have any ads on it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't give his channel attention. He clearly wants a lot of views on the video so that he can get more subscribers, otherwise he'd just donate the money without the video having to reach a specific amount of views.

Also, #SaveTheChildrenBros also seemed like a cry for attention. Why did it have to include "Bro" in it? It obviously also drags attention to his channel.

It's cool that he's doing this, but don't tell me that he has no intention of wanting attention. Willingly or not, he still is earning money from this.

I'm sure PewDiePie is a good guy. Apparently the Game Grumps are pretty good friends with him, so he can't be all bad. He seems like a completely normal guy in the Youtubers React series by TheFineBros. Of course, he could be holding a knife at everybody's neck, but I like to think on the bright side.

It's called Branding. If you omit the Bros then its just going to sound like any generic charity. It might already be in use by another charitable organization. Bros is like Pewd's unique signature. He needs it to stand out. And really, there's nothing wrong with donating to charity for attention. There's obviously someone who's going to see this as a bad thing but I wonder if you had your own channel of subscribers and you began donating, would you have altruistic intentions as well?

Exactly what many people have failed to see about Pewds: that his ear-screeching LP persona is not his actual persona. His videos suck period. He is not a bad person period. What's not to get about it?

Because people are in denial about either. I guess I understand why.
