View Profile Memorizing large amounts of information can be a pain in the ass. I've been memorizing 50 words a day for the last month now.
I'd be impressed if you could remember the majority of those words a year from now.

View Profile It really wouldn't be unusual if he remembered, there are people like that.

Yes it would, spending one day on 50 words. I highly doubt the majority of those words are being absorbed into his lexicon.
Let alone memorizing the strict definition of those words.

But that raises the question even higher.
If he was memorizing the strict definition. What would require him to do so?

A very impressive mind.
That's 350 words a week, like I said a year from now it would be very impressive if he really memorized the majority of these words.
And even more impressive if he could utilize them properly.

View Profile the human mind can only really remember like 7 things at once.
Anything beyond that and you're forgetting everything in between the first and last words.

View Profile I just went to google because i was too lazy to do it in my head. But if he were to actually memorize strict definitions of 50 words a day for an entire year. That'd be close to 18.3k words[18,300] . (For those who don't know, K is also used for thousand... I think...)

View Profile Lamitrov, this is life advice, if you don't know if something is true or not, don't say it at all.
However, you're right in this case, so be confident about it, man. If you're right we can't argue with you, so don't make it easy. If you know you're right, grab your balls and spit that shit, son.

But this only applies when you're trying to memorize things quickly (for example all digits of the phone number). So basically there's not enough time and repetition to move first digits to the long term memory so usually you're left with the ending numbers that are still in the short term memory. But if you were given like 5 minutes to memorize a 10 digits combo you should have no problems there.

tl;dr this theory tells that short term memory has limited capacity and can only store 7 (+-2) items

I'm gonna be 100% serious. I have no idea what you are talking about.
Also I'm someone who will forget things randomly, or remember something to eventually forget it. So i could never memorize 50 words a day xD

View Profile Working memory ≠ long-term memory
Ye, that's what I was trying to say in my earlier post. Last year we did an experiment to test this theory out with some variations, like adding a distraction at the ending so that everything from your short memory would be gone and you would only remember the few numbers that by the help of repetition managed to get into your long term memory and it actually worked, the mean of my personal scores were 6 numbers remembered correctly under normal circumstances
