Is anyone else on board for Fallout 4? I was actually pretty impressed by what they revealed. It looks like they've made honest attempts to address a lot of the issues I have with Bethesda games, but I'm still a little bit miffed that prior to this event they claimed the engine was "brand new" which I feel is dishonest since they admitted it was still Creation Engine which I wouldn't call "brand new" but that's not really important any more. Honestly I wasn't a fan of FA3, and I only played about a half hour of FA:NV before getting bored of it as well. Even after seeing the initial trailer for FA4, I wasn't at all impressed. It didn't look like much of an improvement.

But after seeing their reveal, I can say I'm actually excited for this one.

FF7 is alright if you can get past the ridiculously dated graphics, and give it the time to get invested. FF7, 8 and 12 I would highly suggest at least giving a shot. The changes NV did to FA3 were subtle but significant. It made players less frequent from using VATS (which was a common complaint in F3---that you had to VATS because even if you were within range, normal shooting doesnt work because "its an RPG so you miss"). NV fixed accuracy problems by making it more likely if using ironsights while aiming from guns.

Moreover, several skills got a revamped. Repair in F3 meant the maximum amount possible. So in order to fix anything in F3, if you had 20 Repair, you could only Repair to 20 HP. Which was bullshit. NV fixed this by making it the amount that adds instead of the maximum amount. SO in this case I only needed 5 perfectly fine similar looking items to fix said item back to 100%.

Finally NV introduced F1/2's karma system alongside faction loyalties. You could be morally good but highly detested by a town.

And I don't understand why people like FF4. It's not bad, but it's okay. Fans say that FF4's story was one of the best, but really, if Cecil wasn't such an idiot there wouldn't be a plot in the first place.

I'm sure there's still going to be dialogue trees to get information about various things. Just like the last two games. You'd have to select "Let me ask about..." or something and then you'd get a couple of choices and a "Let's talk about something else". Sounds like it would translate directly to the system they're using now.

Who's to say one of the buttons won't turn into a "Next" or "Previous" or something while the other 3 options cycle through other choices? It's wayyyy too early to be drawing conclusions like these. Not that I expect that to stop anyone.

even if they do implement a next/previous system, that's still a downgrade from the previous system. being able to scroll through all your options is vastly superior to having to cycle through batches of four options (that have been dumbed down to one or two words instead of what you're actually going to say).

dialogue trees are a possibility, but there's a difference between doing this to categorize information, and doing it out of necessity.

simply put, they've tried to fix something that wasn't broken, and broken it in the process. the way they've done it now, there's less space for sentences, you have no control over how your character phrases your selection, and fewer options can be on screen at the same time.

Jaws, you have to realize this is a tech demo and it's for console, so the button binding kind of made sense.

Again, i wouldn't put it past them to simply Mass Effect wheel tihs, because there's no way 4 dialogue options are a definite thing.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced is best FF game.

Why is tactics advanced such a good game anyway? Not to go too far off topic, but ive only heard good things about the game despite it not looking the best aesthetically.

Deep down inside, I would rather it be a Final Fantasy X remake. We got a remaster, which is almost a bad thing because it pretty much guarantees no remake (unless decades later lol). I hold on to the possibility seeing as in Japan it was voted the greatest game of all time by Famitsu readers.

This must be anecdotal because I never see anyone talking about FF6 unless I actively look for discussions specific to it. Only here where there's me and a few other fans would that maybe be applicable, but I have been actively reading the discussion and reaction to the FF7 remake all over the internet since it was announced and I have not once seen this happen anywhere that wasn't buried and ignored beneath piles of "OMG FF7 MUH CHILDHOOD" posts. FF7 is most certainly a more popular game by far, otherwise they wouldn't be beating all the cash out of it every time they get a chance, and that's fine, but it just means the voices cheering for FF7 are much louder than those cheering for FF6.

it's got a pretty intriguing story and combat system. Not to mention the spells and abilities were pleasing to use. Also setting up your team and pulling off sick combos is fun.

Nobody ever talks about Sabin suplexing a train or Setzer losing his love in a race or Locke and his tragedy with an undead girlfriend or Cyan and his family being massacred before his very eyes or Celes attempting suicide. How bout all the theories surrounding Gogo? How bout Intangir and that fucking X-Zone bug. How bout grinding to a brachiosaur or taking down Deathgaze in one encounter? How bout choosing between the Ragnarok Sword or the Crusader Shield? How bout pwning the first half of the game just by teaching Gau how to catscratch and summon Flare before even getting to the world of Ruin?

I would love to talk about these things but only thing people know about 6 is what you know and what the Dissidia people know.

As Jeff has mentioned, I have never seen people fanwank about FF6 unless its in that very specific niche group. Really, the only reason why 7 is popular is because it was accompanied by alot of things that were growing in the west: Anime, PBP RP-ing, Cosplay, 3D Gaming, and the 32-bit console. FF7, while having aged well somewhat and not being a bad game per se, was merely in the right place at the right time.

Although I will admit that Squaresoft took risks and tried to do alot of things that were revolutionary at the time (like the Anime art shift and the deconstructive protagonist), the same thing can be said about every FF game before that. FF6 introduced mature themes like suicide and decided to forego the storyline of Elemental crystals that had been plauging the series for the first 5 games. FF5 had a tongue-in-cheek storyline and introduced a really cool but grindy job system. FF4's Big Bad killed alot of main characters to the point that you didn't even know who was going to be your final party. Square liked to change things up. And 7 was just another one of those changes.

I've never not seen an argument where someone brings up FFVI in a FFVII discussion.

FFX is best. Plebbers. Little known fact. There is a connection between the worlds of FFX and FFVII. Has no effect on either game, but it is canonical.

And actually it would be interesting to see how the environment/character art direction of FFVI translates into modern 3D rendered graphics. We already had a movie of FFVII, so we all know what that's going to look like.

That's what I meant by "must be anecdotal". FF7 has been blowing up for the last few days and I've never seen anyone mentioning FF6 across multiple communities, because the discussion isn't about which is better it's about FF7 being remade and how people feel about it. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen, it just means I don't see it. It has no actual bearing on whether or not FF6 is objectively over hyped by it's fans. Just because you see it mentioned a lot doesn't mean everyone has the same experience. It's stupid make that statement and pretend that it's a fact, it's like saying, "Every time I see a discussion on LoL people are douchy, therefore LoL has a community of douche bags."

Unless I'm interpreting what Raptor said wrong, in which case why does fans advocating their favorite game make it over hyped in a discussion that's specifically about what the best game is? If there's a discussion about what the best FF is, of course there's going to be someone mentioning 6, because the fans do exist and it's reasonable to put forth an argument for something you like. I've never not seen FF7 mentioned, does that make it over hyped? The logic doesn't follow. My point is that it's much easier to find FF7 discussions and fans than it is to find the FF6 equivalent. This doesn't mean anything other than FF7 is more popular than FF6, and Hewitt and I are lamenting that our favorite game is difficult to discuss because rarely have people played it, while most people have played or heard a lot about FF7, enough so to carry on a conversation.

Also FFX is clearly superior, Blitzball is the only thing anyone needs as proof

@Hewitt Also Kefka seems to be ignored as a linear cliche villain but the people that think that either never actually played FF6 or never paid attention to Kefka's story line during the game. I find his story to be one of the more interesting aspects of the game, as it's in complete contrast to Celes' despite their origins being the same. FF6 has an often ignored recurring theme of "two sides of the same coin" that is woven throughout the game. The brothers who decided their fates by coin toss, the gambler betting the use of his ship on a coin toss, Kefka and Celes reaction to magic infusion, world of balance/world of ruin, etc. etc. The use of this theme to create both the primary villain and one of the main characters is part of the reason this game is so memorable to me. Celes had a conscience about what happened which lead to some very adult and depressing themes explored, while Kefka was basically poisoned by it and it drove him literally insane. Everything he does is a result of that experimentation, and if you look beyond the surface of his villainy you'll see a more complex story than it appears.

Every character in the game is fleshed out and unique, despite it being the most playable characters in any Final Fantasy game. It's more of a testament to good story telling to me.

I'm absolutely not denying that FF7 is more popular than FF6, but Hewitt stated that no one talks about FF6 and my experience says otherwise. To be honest, I haven't really looked at any discussions about the FF7 remake, so I can't really talk about it. All I can tell you is that previously, before the remake, I have seen plenty of people in person or on the internet state that FF6 was close to if not the best FF game. I obviously can't really cite it for you, but those have just been my experiences.
