His messenger, a mechanical owl, brings you two things. One is a quest, the other a gift. For now, you look at the gift.
It's a spellbook! For a pretty cool spell, too, which you can use even with your shit magic skill. You should read it and learn the spell at some point.
You make your way to the client for the needing some ass quest.
