So recently, the UN brought in a group made to promote the safety and wellbeing of women and girls online. Amongst its members are two "feminists" some of you may know: Anita Sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn. These two ladies, along with the others on the board, discussed the detriments of Cyber Violence against women and girls, and ways to prevent it.

Just one source about the information, and it provides a video of the discussions as well. Now, I'm not the best person to get a full grasp of the situation, but from what I've viewed in several other sources and videos on the subject (there can certainly be bias, as the two "feminists" mentioned earlier have a less than good reputation), the discussion is in regards to setting up international online censorship laws to prevent potential Cyber Violence, Cyber Bullying, and other forms of Online Abuse in the future.

And while I think that this cyber stuff is an issue, I don't think it's actually that big a deal, because it's the fucking Internet. You can't actually be hurt over the fucking Internet, just your emotions. If your emotions are so easily destroyed by people you don't know not liking you, then your parents should feel ashamed for raising such a disappointment.

Where do you guys stand on this?

Oh goodie, it's one of those issues.

I'm staying neutral as always, although the fact that Zoe and Anita made it that far does ring some alarms.

No. Before you start using the internet you need to learn that anyone from anywhere no matter who can direct their voice right at you.

But worth it when no-one is allowed to disagree with me when I travel the internet calling everything misogynist.

Let the law pass for a week, and if a lot of people hate it, remove the law.

If you didn't say it, I'd have had to. Thank you, Drone, for taking it upon yourself to crush his dreams on how the world works. Truly, truly, your are an inspiration to us all.

absolutely fucking disgusting. the UN is using the whinging of professional victims as a springboard to push an agenda to try and take some control over the internet, which is our last hope of free speech. anybody who thinks this is a good idea should just fucking kill themself and save the rest of us the trouble of being plunged into an orwellian future because they couldn't handle criticism on the internet.

"I have been a target for three years non-stop," she told those in attendance, "of egregious online harassment in all levels."

She defined this as not just the violence that the group has formed to combat, but also the "day-to-day grind of ‘You're a liar,' ‘You suck'

BOO FUCKING HOO

maybe if you weren't a liar people wouldn't call you one

It's a sad day when Zoe Quinn brings up more valid points than the fucking UN.

Being an asshole (at least in someone's point of view) on the Internet shouldn't warrant censorship. Just avoid/ignore them, or if you're too dumb:

Easiest method of avoiding "cyberviolence".

What's more worrying is why this is brought up in the UN. Aren't there much more pressing ACTUAL issues to deal with.

Nothing screams empowerment of women like getting emotionally traumatised over twitter and youtube comments.

Coming from people demanding strong female characters in games I find this hilarious.

they're really dragging feminism through the mud by acting this way. by waving the flag of feminism around to further their own selfish agendas, they've dealt severe blows to the movement as a whole. previously i might have described myself as a feminist, but i absolutely avoid the term these days because of all this social justice shit. if anybody asks, i'm an egalitarian.

Yet somehow they've persisted this far regardless of how loud people are yelling back at them. What's it going to take to actually stop them?
