Thank you Midomi, I heard this somewhere and the rock was amazing but I can only hear the tune of the chorus part.

Really loving the intricate discussion we're having about the music...you know, the one that was promised this thread would generate and not the exact things I predicted against

Heh, you could start one.
Is it just me though, or do we not have any real songs that are really symbolic and kinda universal for our generation? Like, I feel like we just missed out on the Friends' theme, and Don't Stop Believing and the Cheers' theme were just before my time too. I just don't know any songs that ten years from now that are really timeless like those.
Maybe symbolic and universal were the wrong words, I don't think we have anything that really defines us like those, and those are our parents'.

when I think of 'songs of our generation' I think of stuff like Seven Nation Army, Float On, Time to Pretend, Sail, stuff like that.
the songs you listed probably weren't seen as definitive classics when they were first released. it's the stuff that stands the test of time that becomes 'classic' so it's hard to predict how modern music will be seen years down the line.
man, you used to be the change you wanted to see around here. all I see you do lately is complain.
at least the music posts are on-topic. this is just lazy whining. I want the last 30 seconds of my life back.

What do you guys think of alternative rock as a genre? I think it's too generic to be put into a separate genre and should be broken down. One of my favourite alternative rock bands is Diablo Swing Orchestra.
Also Progressive rock is cool.

Alternative rock's a pretty good genre. One of my favorite albums is an alt-rock album:
Alt-Rock has had it's fair share of shit, though. Personally, I hate Smashing Pumpkins. They're one of my least favorite bands, ever, second to Arctic Monkeys.
